If you needed a reliable/accurate 9mm 1911 for carry, under 2k, what would you buy? 4 or 5" only.

I would go with a Springfield loaded target...

I personally would stay away from 9mm M1911. Everything that I have read seems to indicate that they simply don't have the reliability for a defensive pistol. A CZ-75 for BHP MK III both have very similar overall feel to a 1911 and are much more reliable with the 9mm round.

Another good polymer option is to pick up a M&P 9mm with thumb safety and night sights. This pistol could be had for around $510 at grtactical and is far superior to a 9mm 1911 for a defensive pistol. http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=306701

Something from STI. Most likely the Trojan.

STI is probably a good choice, though I have to admit that I have never really understood the allure of a 9mm 1911.

Its called a glock.. I just saved you $1500 bucks, You can send me 10% for finders fee.

In all seriousness, 9MM 1911's are the last thing you want to carry for protection.

For IDPA and games you can load bunny fart loads and the heavy frame/gun adds to that airsoft like feel.

RIA 9mm FS Tactical. Paid $450.00 brand new for mine. Extremely accurate and goes bang every time. However, I when I carry a 1911, it is in 45 acp. When I carry a 9mm, it is a Glock.

If you needed a reliable/accurate 9mm 1911 for carry, under 2k, what would you buy? 4 or 5" only.

If you absolutely have to have a 1911, I would take a hard look at a Wilson Spec Ops 9. If you're willing to pay more than $2k, have Wilson Combat build you a custom 9 mm model. Below that lies the S&W Pro Series 9 mm 1911 and the STI Trojan.

I owned a S&W Pro Series 9 mm, and I wound up selling it. Why? I never wound up using it for steel matches as I originally had anticipated. Instead, I wound up using my XDM and now my Glock 17 (both in 9 mm). Contrary to my original expectation, there really wasn't any added value in me shooting a 9 mm 1911, when a Glock 17 can get the job done just as well and I can bet my life on a Glock for conceal carry. My Pro Series was very reliable (can't remember the gun malfunctioning for reasons other than ammo) and very accurate, but a Glock is far more useful IMHO. So unless you plan on bullseye shooting or shooting some sort of division where single stack 1911s are the rave, I would spend your money on a Glock and other items.

If you have to have a 9 mm 1911, I would pick a Wilson Combat over any of the lower tier builds because they do not sell you a gun with series 80, firing pin block or "Schwartz" type internal safeties and other non-spec parts. Once you strip a Colt series 70 or similar variant down, you'll appreciate the original design of the 1911 as it was intended, and that the gun is safe enough per the original design (thumb safety and grip safety).

Edited to add: You should also look at Springfield's Custom Shop. They can build you a nice 9 mm 1911 as well.

STI Trojan for sure.

NEVERMIND. Just saw that your looking for a carry piece. Maybe the Springfield EMP.

I have 2 springfield 5'' government 9mm's, one a loaded the other the target. I have been carrying the loaded for almost a year now with close to 15,000 rds down the pipe. I stuck yo using the factory 9rd metalform mags after problems with the wilsons in the first couple hundred rds and it has fed and shot EVERYTHING I have put in it.

I did change some small parts to suit me and did some basic reliability stuff but thats the fun of the 1911 right? making it personal unlike a glock. Which you glock guys dont start hating I earned GM in production in USPSA with a glock 19.

might I ask why you want a 9mm as opposed to a 45 to carry?

Saw you stated $2k or less. I had this in mind last year. Ended up saving for another year and bought a NightHawk T3 in 9mm. CCO size, all steel construction, could not be happier. Shoots like a dream! Has been 100% reliable! The DW ECO is a solid choice.......much better than a Block!

However an HK45c is an even better option!

STI Spartan... they have them both in 4" and 5". IMO, the best 9mm 1911 under 700 bucks. I have my 5" for USPSA, goes bang every time. Very reliable and accurate.

I also have a STI Trojan in 40 and Colts in 45 acp. :)

FWIW
I have a Wilson Combat Spec Ops 9
Have one of the first ones to ship
Great gun, 100% deliable
I sent it back in to have the original sights changed out to the black rear and FO front.

Some carry use but mainly 3 gun use

A 9mm 1911 only fits in ESP for IDPA and dosent fit in anywhere for USPSA.

sent from mah gun, using my sights

For USPSA, you can shoot it for Single Stack Minor or Limited 10 Minor. Or if you f'up, you can get bumped to open. :nono:

STS, that is a sample of two. If Todd wants to carry a 9mm 1911 that is fine and i respect his opinion but there are certain things about MY 9mm 1911 and the conceptual idea in general that i do not like.

The only real issue is that the 9mm magazines on the market just plain suck. They are not durable and they are NOT as reliable as modern double stack magazines. They are also exceedingly questionable in regard to hollow point feed and function. A simple knock can cause the first round in the magazine to nose dive which results in all kinds of fun on the range.

My 1911 has been problem free but it has without a doubt required far more care and attention than any of my Glocks or M&P's.

I have zero confidence that my 9mm 1911 magazines will be able to endure the torture of daily use that my Glock magazines undergo.

Also, why limit yourself to 9 or 10 rounds when you can have a 7 round XDS or a 7 round M&P Shield in a MUCH smaller package?

(This question is mostly rhetorical since im a 9mm fan but im throwing it out there anyway) Why go with a 10 round 9mm when you could do an 8 round .45?

Believe me, i understand the allure of the 9mm 1911, i own one and it is one of my favorite fireams but in my mind, it is merely a toy in a similar vein to my CZ Shadows.
