My inspiration for this build was MSTN's "Super SAM" barrel. I started out with a RRA 20" varmint barrel and had it threaded, turned to 1" under the hand guards, 0.875 gas block journal and 0.860 the rest of the way to match the OD of the Smith Vortex G-6. Right now I'm using a PRi low pro gas block.

Here are some pics of the barrel.

Put the upper together and it fought me all the way. Had the barrel nut timed just a bit shy and tried to get it to just bump in there and it over timed. Had to start over. Finally got it right on. The gas block was another challenge. I had already dimpled the barrel for the set screws so that helped a lot. had to install the rail first then slide the block on, move the rail ahead and use a hole in the bottom of the LaRue tube to tighten the set screws.

Details:
GTS lower, CMT LPK, Timney skeletonized 3lb trigger, MagPul MIAD and enhanced trigger guard with my button head cap screw mod and a Vltor EMOD stock.

CMT A3 upper, BCM BCG, CMT charging handle with PRi big latch, LaRue SPR-1.5 mount, LaRue 13.2 tube, RRA 20" Varmint, 1-8 twist, wylde chamber, turned to specs above, Smith Vortex G-6

All the parts ready to go.

Very nice. What kind of scope are you going to go with?

Undecided. I need to research that a bit.
