For $450 used in a shop. Are they that bad?

You should go and buy it. It was shooting illustrated's 2011 gun of the year.

At that price, I'd buy it...

Assuming it was in decent condition, that's a good price on a good gun.

Must be something wrong with that particular weapon for that price.

Are you sure it was not one if the caliber conversion models that come with a .22 upper which you can switch to 9/.40/.357SIG ?

I have seen those run $500 new. I would be all over a P226 in 9MM for that price as long as the frame is in good condition.

At that price I would be suspect about the gun if it isn't the 22lr model, if the shop is willing to stand behind it and it functions checks that is a great price, never seen one for that low of a price and my 226 is a gun that I will never trade or sell.

If it is the factory 9mm model (not the .22 version) and its in good condition then I'd jump on it ASAP. I happen to own that exact model. Build date in April 2010. I love mine and have over 8k rounds through it at this point with no problems, just routine maintenance. You'd be getting a 226 with the SRT and short trigger assembly and the more ergonomic grip for the price of a poly SP2022.

If anything you should buy it, if its not to your liking but still functions well you could sell it and easily get what you paid for it. A win either way.

You would be lucky if it is still there....
