View Full Version : MARS Armament worked over 1911
Had some things done, well quite a bit of work.
Thought I'd share some photos and I'll update what was done later.

What type of finish is on the gun and what color would you call it? Graphite?
Parkerizing, black. Looks grey, unless its saturated with oil.
10-8 front sight as well?

That thing looks mean.
Would be interested to hear what you'd done. That looks like a 10-8 operator built by SACS (same folks who build the professional model) to Hilton's specs.
How many rounds did you have on before sending it to MARS? What kind of failures were you having if any. Both shops are great but outwardly I don't see anything different except the thumb safety, barrel bushing and barrel so I assume MARS also worked on the internals.
Thanks!

piedrarc it looks great man. So we can say all the mims parts are bye bye.

Round count was about 9500-10k.
Failures - none
The ambi-safety was not functioning great. With my support hand it would have to be wrenched down hard to engage. As it aged it became worse.
Extractor - several brass down the mag well during the extractor test at 8k mark.
To SA credit, they would have repaired it. Mainly on their dime.
Personally after discussing things with Steve I choose to ship it to him. I wanted a high cut front strap, the tips of the 20 LPI knocked off, MIM gone.
Disco is now C&S.
extractor and thumb safety EGW HD.
I disliked the front sight, and went with a FO.
Steve also did a bow tie relief for the barrel lower lugs on the new Kart NM. Also a relief on the frame slide stop area.
I'll check my work sheet later, I might have missed something.
that shit cray.
My thoughts exactly. Damn that thing looks like it was built to work

No surprise here. The gun ran flawlessly. Couple hundred rounds of 230gr. JHP's.

Nice thing about the MARS guns is they actually seem to get used. Not so it seems with some other big name smiths.

Was there no 'relief cut' above the slide stop area to begin with?
Since all MIM parts were replaced, were the ignition parts tuned as well for a better trigger pull?
Was your barrel worn at 9k rounds or did you just decide to opt for another one just in case?

No, just the standard Springer cut.
It was tuned and the trigger is better.
No, the stock one piece barrel has plenty of life. I opted for a Kart. Kart makes the best barrels in my opinion, I prefer Kart barrels.

Well, this just makes me feel bad I didn't have the patience to send my Springfield to live in the Morrison's shop for long enough to become truly beautiful - I mean that is absolutely gorgeous.
