When doctoring up a magazine with spent rounds to work on malfunction drills, will the spent round when fed from the magazine into the feed ramp cause any damage to the ramp?

.

Don't see how brass could damage the Feed Ramps. Do you have M4 Feed Ramps?

No, but that is a good way to get a case stuck.

Was referencing a semi-auto handgun, specifically a G17

Not sure which malfunctions you're trying to simulate, but I'm confident dummy rounds would accomplish the same thing and avoid other unnecessary consequences.

Yep, hard to crush a steel ball with a rubber mallet, same applies here.

Have seen this done before. They wouldn't feed at all, usually ended up in stovepipes.

Snap caps or dummy rounds work much better.

Unless you're looking to practice for a failure to feed. Snap caps don't simulate the same failures as a spent casing would.
