I was wondering what kind of demand there is for the old Chinese MAKs, and if it would be worth letting one of mine go.

There is a demand, especially if it isn't a slant cut receiver.

But the demand and price is tempered by what you can buy a current production Arsenal for. It's kind of like having a early 80s Colt carbine. It's collectable and worth something, but maybe not as much as you might hope.

The big bucks are paid for pre89 Norinco's of course. Just not as much as Polytechs.

Its not pre-89 and it is slant cut...but I am thinking $700 range possibly?

If you're willing to sit on it a while, you should get that price easily, since Yugo's are going for that same price, and the Mak is better.

Put an American wood kit on mine right after I bought it in '94 - 2 weeks ahead of the Brady Bunch bill. Gave $199 for it NiB at a gun show in Charlotte. I sold it ten years agom having never fired it. I wish I had it back... :cray:

I am still kicking myself for passing up on one for 700 last fall. Always said I would go back and get it....

I'm still kicking myself for selling my MAK-90 I bought in the early 90s for sub-$200.

I would only sell it because I have two, and I could use the cash to fund other projects. I bought of them pre AWB for a shade over $100 each.

Could always put in on Gunbroker with a $700 reserve and find out.

How ironic, I bought one in the early 90's for sub $200.

I spent the money to "up grade" my straight cut Mak a couple years ago. I always liked the look of the undersold bayonet. So I found one of those - cost more than the rifle originally. Got an Ironwood Chinese stock set that was a perfect knock off of the original. Added a US FCG - which was worse than the original FCG. Threaded the barrel and added a barrel nut. Now it is nice!
