Heard there is a semi-auto with both sights in front of the ejection port. Struck out on google, anyone know the manufacturer and opinion on the placement of the sights?

Caracal.

^^Yup. The early hammered Caracal and I believe the new striker fired Compact uses the quick sights (I believe that's the name).

It is kind of a variation of the "guttersnipe" sighting system used on the S&W Model 39 ASP modification performed by Paris Theodore in the 70s and 80s.

I get the concept, but not my cup of tea. I do like the Caracal based on a limited amount of time I've had behind one.

Thank you guys for the name.

With both sights on the same focal plane, would it not mean quicker target acquisition?

Yes, but it also means that the slightest inconsistencies in sight picture will translate into large shot dispersion down range. You know, the whole "sight radius" thing...
