I will never own a Glock 18, 25, 28 or even a 19 Gen1 and I can live with that. I have been looking for a nice Glock 19 Gen2 and I think I found one! I have looked at perhaps 50+ but nothing like this one. It still has the dark grey internals. What looks like scratches on the slide came off with a little spit rub.:p What are you thoughts on this G19 Gen2 and on 19 Gen2 in general?

Yea, I bought it I was on the fence for a few days but I just had to have it. The price was kind of steep considering I just bought another G19 Gen2 last week. I don't have any safe queens, this may be my first.

A lot of people, myself included, are perfectly happy toting a Gen2 G19 in a Milt Sparks VM2 or Comp-Tac MTAC. I have a Gen2 G19 that gets carried a lot.

AIM Surplus had some last year as police trade-ins, and they never lasted in stock more that 12 hours.

I remember that, because I barely missed it. Had to get my FFL shipping info and by the time he got back to me they were gone. Would love to have a gen2 though sometime.

Keep watching AIM, and Mark at Summit Gun Broker gets a few every now and then. Mark is good people - I've bought a half-dozen pistols from him, and all have been in better than stated condition.

The lack of finger grooves is what attarcted me to the Gen 2 19. The grooves on the Gen3 are spaced differently than on full size guns and never matched up to my hands well. The Gen 2 eliminated this issue and got me back in the swing of carrying a 19 for most of my offduty carry.

My 9mm Glocks (this was taken prior to me stippling the Gen 3 19's front and back straps after removing the finger grooves):

The rest of the family (minus the Gen 3 G22 RTF2 thats sitting in layaway)

1. Lack of MIM parts
2. No finger groves
3. Thrill of the chase, hard to find nice one that isn't beat-up.

I just like the design a little better. I know that there isn't any major differences between the generations but I guess my #3 reason is what allures me to them the most.

That's pretty cool. I saw one at the gunshow we had the past weekend. The polymer frame had a very glossy look to it and no rail. Seemed to be in good condition. It was like 350? I didn't even give it a second glance because of the lack of rail and the grip felt a lot bigger than the Gen 4. I guess that was my mistake :(

No light rail and no finger grooves.

OP, the a G19 GEN 2 is my daily carry gun. They can and do suffer from this though: http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/phase3.html

So I installed a Apex Extractor in mine and have never since had an issue.

Thanks C4, I didn't know this was a problem with early 19 gen2's. I'll look into getting Apex extractors.

I think there were only 200+/- of them made. They used cut down Gen1 G17 frames. If your brother has one and with only 50 rounds through it he has something special! I have only seen one in person and it was beat and road hard. Have your brother send you a picture and please post. -Geo

Hell if you like Gen 2's move to Mass, it's all we can buy at a dealer  , Gen 3/4 are ok through private sale only(and usually at a premium). I was able to track down a Gen 3 here only to find out I hate the finger grooves and went back to a Gen 2. My LGS gets Gen 2's in from time to time, shoot me a pm if you want me to keep an eye out for the next batch.

Did Glock ever make Gen 1 G19s? I'm pretty sure the only Gen 1 pistols were Glock 17.

Then came Gen 2, then came Gen 2 G19 (possibly at the same time), and after that the G20/21 frames.

Yes, but only like 50 of them were imported into the US.

The lack of the finger grooves are the key for me, and many others. I have short little arthritic digits. The lack of grooves mean that I can obtain a solid firing grip in a measurably faster amount of time. I'm not adjusting my grip nearly as much on a Gen2.

Bad grip = lack of hits in a timely fashion.

I just put a section of old bicycle inner tube on the grip, and it works very well for me. I get just enough "gription" to make it all work.

I can shoot a Gen3 about as well, although in a bit slower fashion. Also, there is just something about those finger bumps that makes my arthritis ache after 500 or so rounds in a day. If it's a two day class, I need some meds. My hands just don't hurt with a Gen2.

Fair warning: Getting old ain't for wimps. ;)

My buddy has a Gen 2 G23 that was part of a kit that came with a G27 too I think.

Even has something engraved on the slide. Just reached out to him to see if I can get some pics.

Edit, here is the photo. Any added value over a typical used Glock?

The Gen3 guns are fine. I carry them daily and they are probably the most prolific "generation" of Glock on the streets.

But the lack of finger grooves is cool. Those gen3 grooves never line up with anybody's fingers. Ever. I usually Dremel mine off while stippling my frames. Makes it MUCH easier to control.

For me though, the appeal of the Gen2 guns is the lack of a rail. I almost never mount a light to my weapons, so I could live without a rail. That clean, upswept frame on a Gen2 just looks right somehow.

I love how well used Glocks look glossy. That slide though, you've worn the finish completely off!

To the poster who stated the "grooves never line up ever", I love the grooves. I have the hands of a pianist though.

Isn't it funny how we come full circle on everything? There was a time when you couldn't give away a Glock without a light rail; now people search high and low for them and pay a mint. I've never been a fan of the finger grooves and remove them from all of my Glocks. I do remember thinking they were "cool" when the Gen 3 first came out though.

I had a Gen 2 G19 which was my first Glock. It was purchased in 1995 if I remember correctly. I sold it to a friend a few years ago who wanted a Glock but couldn't afford a new one. It was like new, low round count and I let him have it for $300. I called him last year to see if he wanted to sell it back to me and he had sold it. If I had only known. I would probably pay double what I sold it for to have it back if for no other reason than the sentimental value.

I think the thing that allures us/me to Gen2 Glocks is that they are K.I.S.S. handguns, even a monkey can learn to shoot them well.:p They don't have all the extra garbage safeties, decoking levers, etc. that other guns have. On Gen3 and Gen4 Glock has tried to add some of what they thought were needed upgrades (light rail, double recoil springs, finger grooves) and Glock is getting away from the K.I.S.S. mentality and in doing so is getting itself in trouble.

As for me the Gen2 Glocks embody what allured us all to "Glock Perfection" and now that some of the perfection has left we have come full circle and desire what Glock once was. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to throw out the baby with the bath water I still buy Gen3 Glocks, I have a G26, G19fde, and G20sf which all are Gen3's.

As mentioned before I found two G19 gen2's a few days apart and bought them both. I live in a "Non Free State" so I have to wait 10 days to get them. The one pictured in post#1(Glock Holy Grail) is the nicer one of the two. The other Glock 19 Gen2 that's not pictured has seen a lot more use. The wait is killing me!

I guess I'm lucky as far as the grooves are concerned. I have small hands and the grooves line up fine on my my G19 and G17. One thing I have noticed on my Gen4 G19 is that where the grip meets the trigger frame it rubs the top of 2nd knuckle of my 2nd finger. I'm going to round that part off a bit.

Yeah, actually they do.

Smaller hands maybe, my wife loves the feel of an untouched G19; it is by far her favorite Glock.

Interesting! The slide finish does not appear to be date correct. I wonder is the slide was ever sent back to Glock for refinishing or replaced with a later Gen3 slide? ...none the less that's a good price for a G19 Gen2 in my neck of the woods.

Please understand, not trying to diss the seller, I wouldn't mind it in my collection!

EDIT: After another look it looks like its been heavily oiled. I am surprised that Glock has lasted so long and hasn't been sold. I bet he would take an offer of $400 or possibly $375 with no magazines.

Gen2 G19's are my favorite Glocks. Keep in mind that if you have one or acquire one and plan to shoot it, you'll want to make sure the frame has the relief cuts. The cuts will help ensure a much greater life of the frame. It will be well worth your $$ to send it to Glock to have the gun updated.

Vertical cuts at the locking block. It's a natural flex point for the frame.

Well guys the first G19 Gen2 is home. I live in a "Non-free state" and had to wait 10 days to receive possession of my Glock. As you guys mentioned I replaced the all the old tired springs and gave her a good cleaning. I paid the Glockstore a visit to top her off with a set of Warren Tactical FO Sevigny sights. That is all the lip stick this pig will get. I will be receiving possession of the second G19 Gen2 (my Glock Holy Grail) on Thursday. Here are a few pictures, enjoy!;)
