I apologize if this is in the wrong area.....

I found this at a LGS...they let me take some photos. I can't find much information on these things....

I forgot to photo it, but the bolt has an "A" scratched into the top of it. And not neatly done, either...

Anyone shed some light on this "Colt"???

Can't say what us in the picture. But I know in my area we have seen some AR "assembly" companies crop up. I wonder if that is what you found.

Well it's definitely a Colt....but it ain't built by them, I guess. "Colt Competition"?

There is NO "C" on the upper receiver...also no forward assist or dust cover.

The company that produces the Colt Competition line under licnese announced they were moving from Oregon to Texas a while back.

I admit that I don't know everything about the firearm industry...but I have never heard of Colt Competition before looking into this rifle.

To be honest, it didn't seem very well built. But, maybe they are...

I'm assuming that the "SR" stands for sporting rifle? I've seen the Competition Ready model before, but it had a diamond fluted SS barrel and an adjustable gas block. I didn't realize that Colt was not actually building these guns.

This. They do look similar though.

Colt Competition Rifles makes this gun and licenses the Colt name from Colt's Manufacturing. They are totally different companies. It started showing up at distributors recently.

Umm.... Gross. Maybe Colt (or whoever) should stick with the 6920. Or really just anything else at all :p

Looks like in this case, you really are paying for the name!

So they even slap "competition" in the name, and people still cry that it isnt a 69 series gun?

Our shop had one in. I'd like to shoot it, but for Comp/hunting, I'd still go with something else.

Well they obviously don't know how to build a hard use carbine any more. And furthermore their fit and finish lately....shoddy.

Damn you Colt firearms subsidiary.

I have three Colts and have they don't have a "Colt" roll mark on the barrel, never seen that on any Colt for that matter.

Odd piece there.

Did they engrave before they anodized?

I saw some examples of this at the LGS a few months back, and they were engraved after anodize.

MistWolf you hit that one out of the park.
I was thinking is that the off brand "Colts" I had read about being jobed out for a low-end price point. I could go for a Colt mid...

A competition rifle. Most I have seen of these are not really made by Colt and in contracting out for parts are not near the quality of a real Colt. We have 6900s in our store and I have had my hands on a few of the other competition rifles like the adj. gas block version mentioned above. That particular rifle was pretty nice but every other one I have been extremely unimpressed with. The 1/8 twist is a nice touch on the barrel but that's about it. Not worth the money for overall quality of what you get.
