Anyone run a SF Fury on an Ultimak rail with VLTOR QD mount and Aimpoint H-1/T-1?

Most seem to run G2 or 6P. I am wondering whether larger head of Fury will obstruct my view on T-1.

Thanks,
Jim

I'm sure you're talking about the Vltor offset light mounts. Just verifying: SMQ-OE.

You'll be fine. It won't obstruct the view that you see through an Aimpoint Micro that's also mounted on a Ultimak M1-B.

The only issue I had with that kind of setup is with a standard 16" AK barrel and FSB a light even as far forward as it can be on the Ultimak the light shines directly on the back of the front sight post and leafs. That's fine when in-doors.
When outside and aiming at anything past 10 yards and trying to ID the target with the rifle mounted light you can see the sights but the target is washed out.

Probably a bit shorter than what you're putting it on but it should give you an idea. Bear in mind what the poster above said about light splash.

And don't mind my roomies Faaaaaabulous kitchen window cover...

Pics are worth a thousand words. Perfect. Thanks.

This is first I have read about wash out of target past 10 yards. So what do AK guys do about that? I mean, what good is a 500 lumen light if you can only ID your target out to 10 yards. I guess it is still useful for shooting further out, but you just have to be sure it's a bad guy because light won't help you determine that. Realistically, how far can you ID someone with a light anyways? I guess it depends on what you are using to ID someone, like face, or clothes, or other features.

Put the light below the barrel. Move the flashlight way up on the barrel. Or move the front sight back. I.E., use a FSB+GB combo and it's easy to mount a flight far enough forward.

Last solution is by far my preference.

Thanks. Maybe I will use HSP Thorntail mount instead of VLTOR mount then. I'm not ready to upgraded gas block and shorten barrel yet as I kind of want to keep the AK74 lines.

Good idea. A Thorntail + a M600 should sort you out. Not the cheapest route but a solid solution.

That'll tuck the bezel in even closer to the centerline of the rifle.

Using a dropwing is my normal setup on that AK. I had to shim the light's body with a couple wraps of electrical tape to keep it in place. It kept walking forward in the mount under recoil.

Pick one and run it. Think about this, if you're actually mounting the gun and either looking down the sights or possibly just over them at your target you aren't going to see much if any of the front sight base. I've used the FURY in a dark shoothouse made of railroad ties that seemed to soak up light. I had no issues at all IDing and processing targets out to 35-40yds in the house. I've also spot-lighted 'coons and possums in trees out to 120-ish on a ranch for a buddy with a suppressed .22lr. The light also puts enough out I was even able to track a moving hog on the opposite side of thick brush, looking through it at the running porcine villian and seeing my sight picture clearly on him, and then busted his ass after he left the brush.

It's good. Rock it.
