I have been trying to find a good way to mount a Surefire X300 or similar light to a 20" rifled upper and nothing seems to be perfect.

The Mossie Tactics Midnight Mount works good with many applications (especially the 14.5" and 16" barrels) but it's a little too akward for the 20".

The Haley Strategic Thorntail mount seemed pretty good, but I couldn't get it exactly where I wanted it on the rail. Ultimately I mounted the light on the left side just about midway of the FSB with the Thorntail offset. There is surprisingly little shadowing of the barrel.

Looks pretty slick. I love seeing "working" 20" ARs around still. The SBRs and 14.5s and 16s become a bit mundane after you see pictures of someones thousandth build. One question I have, though unrelated to the original topic, is how you like the sling set up in that forward position?
I have always preferred a sling further out to use as support when shooting, but I have found on my ARs that it always gets in the way of hand placement and I end up sandwiching it between the handguard or getting my arm tangled in it.

It's fine and hasn't been an issue. I have contemplated using a rail mounted sling attachment, but I am not sure yet.

20" AR???? What century are you living in, bro?

Just kidding. In all seriousness, my shooting buddy has a 20" AR that he has been contemplating mounting a light to as well. Last time we went shooting, he tried out some of my lights and mounts on it just to see what felt right. One thing we noted was that the weight of the light and mount was even more noticeable since it was that much farther away from the body. The Surefire X300 type lights seem to be a pretty light solution, and that's what I felt was best on his rifle.

6P in a GearSector mounted to the top rail! The longer light would better reach around your FSB better, while keeping the controls closer at hand.

I won't use it. Simply because I like uniformity and most of my AR's and Glocks use the Surefire X300. This way I can rotate or move the light around to any of my others.
