I might be taking my first dive into the AK world here and the first 500 of these will be at around $1300 from Atlantic Firearms. Is this a good first AK? I just want a reliable 7.62 AK to plink around with, without having to do much work to it upon arrival.

Anyone handled one yet?

I have the same rifle that was made in the US and sold for much more. It is AWESOME! Get in on the first 500 for sure.

Are you sure? This was a pretty big release from Arsenal, claiming it'd be game changing. I don't think you're thinking of the same weapon.

Arsenal always makes big claims. I think this one fits the bill.
I own (2) Arsenal SA M-7 SF rifles made in the US. Approximately 400 were made years ago.

I also own (2) Arsenal SA M-7 SFK SBR's made in the US. 26 were made and 20 made it to the public.

Watch this video and hear about the new 16" rifle and the reference to the US made version for yourself.

started on another forum, they claim this rifle is a "Game Changer" um i dont think so....just another ak type variant but milled receiver, pass on this one. maybe if they imported the dragunov or 9mm type ak then that will be something.

Pretty sure that the first 500 were gone within 12 hours of the announcement. They are already and have been marked $1650 since Thursday morning.

So it has a milled receiver and a skeleton folding stock. Whats all the hub bub about again?

I have a SAM7r-61, with mostly the same specs.
I am very impressed with my rifle, and the differences I noticed are:

The left-side selector lever and pistol grip
This looks interesting, mainly because I am used to the selector on an AR and my right thumb keeps looking for it when I shoot my AK.
The pistol grip does look larger and more substantial than the comblock standard pistol grip on my rifle. However, I'm more interested in the Magpul AK grip.

The right folding stock.
Jumpin'-Jesus-on-a-pogo-stick. An Arsenal side-folding stock for milled receivers? I want this, bad. The solid Arsenal stock that came with my rifle is a good stock, but I'd love a side folder. Reducing the length would make it much easier to fit in my safe, in my range bag, etc. The fact that it folds to the right and therefor wouldn't hit my Midwest mount/Aimpoint setup has me drooling.

The muzzle break.
This is a different part than the simpler flash suppressor that came on my rifle, and has been available on other Arsenals in the past. Is it better? I don't know.

Gas block.
Appears to be the same 90deg block on my SAM7r.

Hand guards.
Same.

Forged then milled receiver.
Same

Side rail & Scope mount.
Same. Excellent lockup and placement using a Midwest Industries 30mm scope mount with an Aimpoint PRO. Gives a nice lower 1/3 co-witness with irons.

Hammer forged barrel.
Same.

So, the primary differences I see are the left-side selector, pistol grip, folding stock, and the muzzle break. I paid $1349 for my SAM7r-61, so if you can find a SAM7sf for that, well, jump on it! This is their introductory price, with MSRP apparently at $1,600. Would I have paid another $250 for a right-folding stock, pistol grip, left selector, and AK-74 muzzle break? Yes. So, it looks like Arsenal made a very nice addition to their stable.
Is it a "game changer"? Well, not really.

Well as of this morning Atlantic Firearms sold out. Guess I won't be finding any time soon.

Well... If I had $1400 ($1600 now in this case if the first 500 were bought) lying around burning a hole in my pocket, I would buy one on the dot.

Arsenal makes good stuff. Milled receiver? Yummy.

If you have the $1600 and don't mind your wallet being lighter, Buy it.

I don't think I'd pay that much extra for those features over an SGL.

Show me a store with an SGL in stock for less than that.:(

K-Var still lists them at $1349 at the moment. (http://www.k-var.com/shop/SAM7SF-84.html)

For a "game changer" I was expecting something like a bizon, vityaz, or an AS Val.
