Some of you may remember the thread I had previously about finding someone to do custom work for a couple DL platforms.
Well, after playing around with them some more, and pilfering the waist straps from my THE pack I've come up with a workable solution that I can do myself. Unfortunately those two borrowed straps do not provide me with enough material or hardware to get the job done.

Unfortuantelier, I have no clue what I'm looking at as far as actual type of the parts (to be explained more below) and I also have no idea where to get this stuff.

I have found a couple possible suppliers based on a list by Milspec Monkey;
(Webbing:http://milspecmonkey.com/customize/webbing)
(Hardware:http://milspecmonkey.com/customize/hardware)

It seems that Lowy USA and GSI would cover about everything (although Lowy looks much more like the "right" stuff, as far as design and material types used and I like their selection better). It seems Jones Tactical also sells webbing and parts, but not a lot of info on their site and I would need more info (hence this thread) to even ask what they offer.

HOWEVER- it seems that being actual manufacturers and distributors, there is a lot of Min. orders and Min. quantities that would need to be ordered. I'm sure most of this can't be all that expensive (right?), but at the same time, I really don't need 200 yards of webbing and 600 sliders....
Is there any companies like those that cater to smaller orders?

HERE IS WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:
Based on the description in the MSM pic/linked websites:

HARDWARE

Plastic/Metal Slide, 2"
For securing/adjusting webbing-see any BFG sling for example (Item:http://www.lowyusa.com/pl-sb200).

From experimenting, it seems having a couple metal versions in the style of the THE pack hardware (This? http://www.lowyusa.com/sl504 Or this? http://www.lowyusa.com/sl02300200) may be handy as well as it's a little more low profile. Seems like they may not hold tight as well with thin webbing though...

Plastic/Metal Loop, 2"
For securing two seperate strap assemblies (like these: http://www.lowyusa.com/pl-lp200)

WEBBING

I have absolutely no clue WTF I'm looking at here, based on pictures, and info on this seems hard to find, so I will attempt to describe what I want, and hopefully someone here will know;

Webbing Type 1; 2" width of the material that Wilderness Tactical uses for their instructor belts, OR that HSGI uses for the Cobra belt that came with the SGPB that I got.

Webbing Type 2; 2" width of the material that TT uses for the leg straps for their DL panels (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/qrlegrigassembly.aspx), or that Specops Brand uses for the waist belt on their THE pack. Thinner than the Wilderness/HSGI stuff.

EXTRA PARTS

Velcro/ Hook and Loop; Sew-on type, not sticky. I want the type that HSGI uses- that stuff is freaking invincible once it's attached together. The thing is, I have no idea what type exactly that would be, as on Lowy's page (again: http://www.lowyusa.com/soft-goods/velcro-usa-hook-loop) there's different certification numbers and class types- it's not like they just list it as "invincible velcro, type 1 "...

OneWrap; I'm not sure if I'm referencing the correct thing, but this is that super lowprofile hook and loop stuff that SKD uses on their PIG shoulderpads as the loops to secure them to the vest/PC straps (http://www.skdtac.com/PIG-BRIG-Shoulder-Pad-Set-p/pig.513.htm)
The thing is on Lowy's page (yes, all these links are what I meant above when I said their stuff "looked right"- http://www.lowyusa.com/vc-onewrap) it's offered as "hook" side or "Loop" side, but described as "back to back hook and loop"....
Or are they just stating the colors of each side, in that "black" would have black hook and white loop?

Grommets/Eyelets; I'm sure these are available just about anywhere, but is there a type I can use that will lay flat? For example, RCS holster grommets have a bit of a rounded edge. I'd like to not have that, if at all possible.
I'm also not sure if i'd need a spurred washer half for use with webbing material?

As far as production/How-To- What is the best/correct way to cut the webbing? How about the Velcro/Onewrap?
Can I just use a knife/scissors, or do you need some sort of heated cutter to cut the webbing/punch holes. The hole punch on Lowy's site (Here-http://www.lowyusa.com/hk-60) looks supsiciously like a woodburner, which I have.
So I would assume I can use a basic woodburner to punch holes, and then cut the webbing/velcro however and seal the cut ends with...something else flat and hot?
Because, I really don't want to buy a whole machine to cut a couple pieces of webbing....

Ideas and info, anyone?

I have had good luck ordering the items you mentioned from these folks:

http://www.strapworks.com/default.asp

They allow you to order single items, rather than a railcar full of Fastex.

And on the cutting nylon, they do make an electrical hot knife cutter doodad. Honestly, I use an Exacto knife with a steel ruler holding down the nylon webbing on a kitchen cutting board. Then I melt the cut end with a Bic lighter.

Not elegant, but not expensive. I'm just building gear for personal use, and not for sale.

Hope that helps.

There is a thread on LF with a guy selling a lot of webbing and other items, you may want to take a look: http://www.lightfighter.net/topic/moving-on-sale

That site looks promising.
The thing is, they don't say what their stuff is made of, or what type some of it is- like for example, the plastic buckles on the Lowy site are listed as "acetal" material. I know BFG uses the same thing on their stuff, therefore it's "good".
Same thing with the velcro- is it super-sticky awesome velcro, or the kind that "sort of" sticks together and pull apart real easy?
If you've ordered any of this sort of thing from them, what kind of stuff is it?

I know Supply Captain has "milspec" velcro (http://www.supplycaptain.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=14), but as milspec could be anything, given that just about every AR on the market is "milspec"....

The big hiccup, aside from "type" of things like velcro is the accursed webbing. I swear, this must be some kind of trade secret or something as I can't find a belt manufacturer that lists exactly what they're using.
Best guess, on HSGI's site for the standard Riggers belt is listed as "type 13" material. Off the top of my head, the only material I know of in "type 13" is 4088.
As far as the thinner stuff that's actually even more important..... Could it be just plain flat nylon webbing, or 17337? 27267? 43668? Type 7 4088? I'm stumped.

Exacto+ruler sounds like a plan. :D

Drtywk- I'm not a LF member, so I can't view that thread.

Honestly, I'm not a metallurgist or whatever you call a fabric guy.

The metal D-rings I ordered seemed decent, they were made out of metal and seemed to have decent welds.

I don't have a lot of technical specs on the stuff, I was just building some shoulder straps I could attach to loadout bags and Storm cases.

Not being snotty, I just don't know. They seem to have held up well enough for my uses. I'm just hauling stuff to the range and/or classes, not doing a 12-month deployment or anything like that.

You could contact them and ask, they might be able to give you better details.

Some of them can be found in a scuba dive shop. used for weight belt and for stabilizing dive weights. Not the lowest prices but normally higher quality if "name brand" if you're just neeing a few. Plus you see what your getting. I've got Velcro in some sewing stores.
