View Full Version : Poor mans BCM HSP Jack!

The BCM HSP Jack rifles have been VERY successful. So much so, that the demand far exceeds the supply. On the flip side, some folks did not like the HSP Jack because of the permanently attached MB, length of the rail or the cost.

So we asked our good friend Paul to make us a variant of this rifle. The guns we spec'd has a 16" Lite Weight/Pencil barrel (in either standard or hammer forged), Geissele MK4 rail in Sand color, BCM MOD 1 grip in FDE and a B5 Systems Bravo stock in FDE.

Weight of these AR's is only 6 pounds, 3 ounces!

I liked this configuration so much, that I had to keep one for myself (down side to being a dealer)! :D

I did make a few changes to mine though. I added a Geissele G2S, B5 Systems QD Receiver Plate and a BCM GunFighter Comp MOD 0.

When the Magpul PRO BUIS's come out, they will go on this gun.

It's BFH, and acronym that BCM uses for their hammer forged barrels (Barrel, Forged, Hammer).

You have exquisite taste Grant!! I had the same idea and got most of the components from you. I'm not using the AFG, the MK4 just doesn't need it.

Looks like my rifle except I built it before the Jack or the MK IV existed. I think this one is 7lbs 4oz.....

I was just thinking the same thing lol. Reminds me of the mismatched browns on the scar. While I like the build as far as components, I rather have it all black. I think one of the appeals to the Jack Carbine is the uniformity in color.

Your configuration makes a lot more sense compared to the Jack.

The 14.5" gov't profile mid with a 10" rail was straight-up goofy.

The 14.5" gov't profile mid with a 10" rail was straight-up goofy.

I agree on this. Whenever you see Haley shooting it in various videos, his hand is so far out on the rail that his fingers usually touch the barrel. I have no idea why they went with a 10" rail. Seems silly.

I think I am the only one here that likes the idea of the 10" rail. Still, however, it is not ideal. I would chop off another itch or so and add the FSB, or add another inch to completely cover the gas block.

I would still trade my 12" for a 10 though.

And Grant, are you considering to sell any of those rifles in your personal configuration- the B5 QD, BCM comp, etc?

I am sure this has been hashed, and re-hashed, but what was the final consensus on LW barrels when you heat them up doing VTAC 1-5 drills back to back and then take a 200 yard shot on the next course of fire a few minutes later. Text-book deviation only, or would you notice/care?

THIS! i have a few MK# rails and for giggles i put my MK4 on my BFH lw 14.5" for a bit (its back on my 300BLK now) and was was super light! i went back to the 13" MK1 on it and its still really light!

this is the first LW barrel setup i've run and i can definitely see what all the fuss has been about on these! i put this together as a backup to my JACK but like this much more more due to the being so much lighter up front!

Maybe he wanted the glorious bombproofness of the Mk1 without the ridiculous weight penalty of the 13" Mk1?

Any way you can get the stock and pistol grip in black and the rail in sand?

That sand color is pretty dark in relation to the FDE grip and stock. Just for comparison do you have a grip and stock in Coyote Brown that might match up? If so could you post a photo? THANKS

Also related to this thread:

I built a "Montana Jack" with parts laying around plus 'Jack' parts. No, I don't have any pictures of it.

But it was a 16" mid-length government profile BFH barrel from BCM, sand 13" Mk1, FDE SOPMOD Bravo, and FDE BCM Gunfighter grip. And the whole gun looked just fine (to me). Even/especially with a Trijicon TA31 ECOS on it. So unless you're a big color-match nut (eg, you can't stand FDE SCARs), I wouldn't worry about it.

And I ended up selling the 'Montana Jack' when I finally got an HSP Jack. The balance and weight of the HSP Jack killed my appreciation for the MT Jack.

If I were going to built another MT Jack, it would look an awful lot like this "Poor Man's Jack", down to the optional Geissele trigger. (I'd probably rock a Mk3 instead of the Mk4, though.)

Proprietary barrel nut but not barrel. As grant mentioned its universal for barrel fitment. The set screw above the pivot pin are for setting rail alignment and work great!

The rails doesn't clamp to the barrel nut. The rail has anti-rotational tabs on either side that interface with the receiver.

Yes they will return to a zero given you properly index, and tighten down the cross bolts, and set screws.

The use of a large surface area one piece mount like a ADM, larue, or bobro mount during the installs help ensure this property.
