I've been in search of the tape that Talon/true grip uses. I've got talon grips right now and like them alot but I wanted to do the backstrap as once piece vs two. After searching I went to Lowes and picked up Sjurtape which is too rough than talon and then to walmart (read they had another product) and it is some off brand for RV's...cheap Chinese crap.

I bought some stuff at Lowe's. It did not stick very well.

Now, I might try a local skateboard shop or order online.

I haven't used any since I did the front strap on my 1911.

I went in a local skateboard shop and asked if they had any scraps in black I could buy cheap.

They gave me all I wanted for free.

It stuck well, had good grip, and was relatively durable.

I use 3M. Got it at lowes and works good.

A decent bicycle shop will usually have some scrap pieces for free.Plenty to do whatever you need.Depends on the owner though.

I've used talon grips before. I've also fired some with 3M tape and all work fine, just depends if you want to trim and cut it into place or have it preformed for a little more money.

I don't mind cutting it out as I have templates already. I tired finding the ladder one but didn't see it. Ill have to go back and look again. I was in the tape section maybe try the ladder section now.

3M anti slip tape. I think I paid $8 for a giant roll at Home Depot.

The last Talon grips I have purchased have "Jessup The Original (http://www.griptape.com/)" on the backing paper.

Mob grip tape has held on my CZ for the past year very well. Got a roll big enough to cover a skateboard for about 10 bucks shipped after searching a few minutes. It's got tiny perforated holes about every square inch or so that let air out when applying. Ideal texture too.

I use Dawson Precision pre-cut grip tape, and I will be trying Gorilla soon as the DP doesn't cover the backstrap.

Local skate shop sells a full skateboard deck's worth for $6. That is enough to do about 6 or 7 pistols.

What I did. Sticks well, comes off when I want it to. If it is to rough just take a fine file to it to knock off the sharp peaks.

If you clean the surface very well, and heat to dry, then apply, heat again, it seems to resist even brake cleaning fluid when cleaning, and stay on for a long time. Cheaper than checkering.

I like the stuff from guntape.com. It's not gritty like the skateboard stuff, and has a rubbery quality that IMO feels better...

...if you don't mind being ripped off, as it is a bit overpriced for what it is

Assuming it's a polymer-frame gun, have you considered DIY stippling vs. tape? All you need is a soldering iron and a little practice (old PMAGs make good guinea pigs). Basically free (unless you don't have a soldering iron) and you never have to "re-apply".

Been running decal grip tape on mine. Bought it from Midway a couple years ago now. Personally has held well, though it doesn't feel at gritty as it once did, though my hands may just be getting tougher.

As far as stippling goes, speaking only for myself, I just don't trust myself not to screw my frame up, am just a little too OCD in that regard. That said, it should be considered an option nevertheless for anyone, though if I were to do it I would likely pay someone of reputation to do it for personal added piece of mind.

Because I use it as IDPA gun and it would bump me up a level which I feel like I'm not ready for. I've been praticing on a pmags as well with different shapes/strokes.

Why not install a Hogue Handall grip?

They're very inexpensive ($6.00 to $12.00 depending on where you buy them) and provide a great grip!

Plus, they look good.

Black Magic grip tape. Get it at a skate shop, $5 or so should last forever. Also works well on skate decks.

Put a piece of paper on your pistol grip, and outline it where you want the grip tape to be. Or try shading while outlining the edges. Then align and cut.

If you have access to a multi function printer or copy machine put the gun on the glass and make a copy of it, then cut it out and you now have a template

Talon grips.

How have yours held up? Any peeling in the back? I've heard that is an issue for some...

Check out Traction Grips. They make rubberized or sandpaper-like grips that are cut in templates for each particular gun. I am particularly partial to the rubberized ones. They feel slick if you just run your fingers over them, but when you actually grip them, they feel like you're holding onto tar.

+1 black magic is awesome, I've used it on a handful of knives and 2 glocks.

Why not install a Hogue Handall grip?

I used to use one on my G22 but it would always get twisted around when doing a lot of shooting. It felt good though, just hated that it moved around.

Now I use sand paper decal grips on my Glocks and 3M tape under the trigger guard and where my support thumb rests. I also cut grips for my M&P with the 3M. Holds up great.

Another vote for 3M. I used it on a Glock 19 for a while (Safe-T-Walk...or whatever it was) but when carried IWB it really did a number on my sides and stomach area. I got rid of it and went with a Houge sleeve I had laying around. I took off a lot of the excess material (namely, the humps on the sides, WAY too bulky). It sucked. When sweat got on it, it was WAY too slippery. Seeing as I was in the summer months when this happened, it was not a good thing. I tried stippling the rubber, which was ok, but the grip was too thick still. it also tended to move around a lot, twisting this way and that. I recently went back to the 3M stuff (changed my pattern, less is more) and the gun fits in my hand like it used to: comfortably, and not going anywhere. With an undershirt or a good belt to keep the holster still,, the 3M stuff doesn't chew me up anymore.

So far no issues on my XD Service Model. I tend to get semi-sweaty hands too. Which is the main reason why I got them in the first place.

I have used Talon grip tape on my G-17 for appox 3 months.
I carry all of the time on and off duty.

I wasn't sure how well it would hold up considering how much that I carry but so far impressed with the quality.

I thought it was worth the try even though I do think its a little over priced for what it is.

Check out the various tennis racquet grip tapes and skate board tapes seen in places like Academy. I like the Wilson racquet tape for my modest requirements but have used skate board stuff with success.

Decades ago rosin in sacks was marketed for better grip purpose. The idea was taken from baseball--pitchers used it. Squeezing the sack released rosin onto the hands.
