Can anyone point me to a reputable mfg who still makes a a4 style rifle. (think standard m16)
Grant has this on his website but it's currently out of stock. Check with him and see if he's expecting any more in or if he can assemble what you want.

What barrel length and gas system?
What barrel length and gas system?
Since he's asking for a standard A4 style rifle I would assume that he wants a 20" barrel with a rifle length gas system.
In that case, BCM is probably your best bet at the time. They produce both uppers and complete rifles, but you have to catch them while they are in stock.
Colt announced at SHOT this year that they will also be bringing an A4 style rifle to market this year, but when exactly that will be is still a mystery.
An A4 by definition is a rifle gas system with a 20" barrel and a flat top upper receiver.

Y'all are correct. 20" and rifle length. I will keep my eye open for both the colt and the bcm. It's not a great time to be looking but I want to put something classic in the gun safe for my son when he gets born in October.

I just bought a BCM upper a few weeks ago. They go pretty quick still when they get them in stock but be persistent and you'll get one eventually. An A4 clone would be a great second rifle for a boy, assuming as I do that the first should be some form of single shot .22 LR.
