I just ordered one. According to the website they have 66 left. I think these are new, I couldn't find any reviews. So they might be good barrels or they might be junk. Here are the specs:

Grey phosphate finish
- 20 inch length
- A1 "pencil" profile
- 1 in 7 twist
- Caliber 5.56 NATO
- Chrome lined
- With gas hole and barrel extension.

It's too bad they don't list the barrel material. The rest is interesting. Although, shouldn't a period rifle be 1 in 12?

The plot thickens. Here's the reply I got in regards to the make and technical specs.

The barrel is made by a Colt licensed manufacturer. It meet the Mil specs for the M16-A1 "pencil" barrel.

Regards,

McKay Enterprises, LLC

Yeah 1/12 was the correct twist.

I bought a similar barrel minus the chrome, with a 1:9 twist from Alpha Shooting Sports for $169.
I don't think exact(mil spec) replacements are being made anymore unless you commission a custom.

Didn't CMMG make a 1/7 twist pencil barrel? I have my doubts as well. I guess I'll know more once I receive the barrel. I'll take some pics once I get it.

Ordered two: one for me, one for my buddy. Like the idea of the A1's lightness but with the 1:7's ability to shoot anything.

Now I've gotta find an A1 FSB and taper pins so I can send it all off to ADCO!

I'm willing to bet these barrels are from Green Mountain Rifle Barrel (http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/militarysurplusriflesbarrels/ar-15--m16--m4--assault-rifle-barrels/m16-a1--556mm-20--112-twist-20-barrel) and are 1/12 twist. I'm not aware of anyone else making A1 profiles barrels.

Sure as hell better not be! They'll be refunding my $$$ if that's the case. I have ZERO interest in a 1:12 barrel (or a non-chrome lined one either).

.625 FSB at BCM (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/AR15-Front-Sight-F-Marked-625-p/front%20sight%20base%20-%20f%20625.htm)

FSB Taper Pins at BCM (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Taper-Pins-for-Front-Sight-Base-AR15-M16-M4-p/taper%20pins%20fsb%202.htm)

Was actually looking earlier, but thanks!

I was told a "virgin" FSB (.i.e. one that has not been drilled for a taper pin already, like a surplus one would be) is the optimal situation. Drilling through the new FSB and the barrel simultaneously would help ensure a tighter fit. A surplus one *could* cause chatter with the bit as well as the slightest variation between the old hole (in the FSB), new hole (in the barrel), and the taper pins could be complicating.

So, I think I'm gonna buy an undrilled .625" FSB and taper pins and send it to ADCO. Looking at their website, it appears that they provide their own (?) taper pins for an extra charge of $15, so I *may* not need the taper pins. And yeah, I think it's gonna be Bravo Co. I order from!.

Yes, it should be 1:12. The M16A1 rifles we have at work shoot 55g ammunition really well. Don't count on a 1:12 stabilizing much heavier bullets.

Got mine. It is 1:7 twist (checked it myself). Chrome lined too.

Marked as follows: C MP B

Now, from a quick Google search it appears that those are Colt markings (!). IIRC Colt made a special run of 1:7 twist A1 barrels for the IDF a while back. Could these be some of that batch?

Rifle or M4 cuts? The reason I ask is because I've been looking for a 20" 1:7 LW for a non-retro build, and tring to find flattop upper receivers without M4 cuts can be a bitch.

OK, found a thread at TOS that appears to show M4 cuts. I'm in.

Building a 20" LW irons only flattop with MOE HG/ACS-L on an A5, I'd call it KISS if I didn't hate that term. This should be fun!

Yep, M4 cuts (just checked).

I already have a retro A1 clone built on one of CMMG's 1:7 chrome lined barrels they used to have, so this one is gonna be a non-retro LW build. Same as you with MOE handguard but not sure about the stock setup yet......debating whether to just get a Cav Arms A1 stock. I was thinking BUIS and an Aimpoint T-1, and THAT'S IT!

Come to think of it, a RRA UTE upper, MOE HG's, and a Sully stock with 1" spacer would give it that Taiwanese T-65 look. Hmmm......

Woot! Good deal on the M4 cuts - sucks for retro, but it makes a flattop a lot easier. Thanks for confirming!

T-65, huh? Hmmmm...

Has anyone shot these McKay barrels yet? Mine is still waiting for assembly & I'm curious how they are.

I got one of the last ones and it shoots fine, more accurate than me. Looks right, 1x7 twist matrked C MP B which is correct for late 603 1970/71 Now I need another one!

I finally had my FSB installed and am now trying to fund the rest of the build.

With those markings, wouldn't that be a 1/12 twist.
