This is a nice and yet less expensive way to get a 1886.

This rifle is a Chiappa Firearms 18inch carbine I just set up.

What do you guys think about this one.

Blessed Mother of all Kittens, that's gorgeous! Did you do the case hardening yourself? 45-70, I gather

45-70? What is the recoil like?

I have a Marlin in the same configuration and had a Decelerator pad installed. Recoil is stout but didn't bother me- until I shot it from the bench

I did
1. Internal work
2. stock work
3. installed sights
4. fit a but-pad

The rifle comes CCH and I take them the rest of the way out on the other things.

It makes an inexpensive package.
The base guns are hard to get I have had this one in the wings for a long time it will make someone a nice rifle.

45/70 is all over the bored on recoil if you get jackhammers you have a tear in your eyes every time you pull the trigger.

On the other hand a box of cowboy loads is like shooting 22lr.

With an 18" barrel that must be one handy rifle. What does it weigh?

With the barrel 18inches long of octagonal it is on the heavy side in comparison to the Marlins.

What is your opinion of these Chiappa rifles?

I love it. Octagon barrels get me all hot and bothered, and this set up sure is a beaut.

Do the Chiappa lever guns have that funky added safety on top of the receiver like the Brazilian Rossi 92 copies? That and the overall build quality of the Rossi kept me from having one.

I would love a rifle like that but in the 92 Winny action, 16" barrel and in 38/357.

What is your opinion of these Chiappa rifles?

Another awesome lever gun!

I too have the same question. All my ownership and shooting experience has been with Marlins and Winchesters, but these import guys have some cool models that have recently caught my eye (1887 shotgun especially).

I just put some new sights on this one.
The pics should answer some of the questions the guns have not got an external safety that is one of the things I like about them.

Chiappa seems to make a decent gun. Beautiful job on the rifle.
