Would you go for it or put a little more money in and get something better? Its supposed to be a gen3, what the reviews said . Any advice would be great.

Those are good builds as a whole. But if you ever plan on changing anything on it I'd go a different route. The handguards, stock, and grip are not standard AK parts.

I would pass personally, CAI is involved and the barrel will not be chrome-lined; and as mentioned Yugos can be difficult to customize.

A real suggestion though. Its the better thing going in the market right now. Even though it's 5.45x39, it's a deal. This is the same price and will accept any standard AK accessories/furniture. They sell better wood or even plum arsenal furniture versions.

Pass.

Hop on over to the AK Forums and wait for a SAR 1 to come along in the $700 range. Just makes sure the sights are straight.

I wish Waffen made a 7.62. I know they're US barrels, but seem to be the better of the group.

Good news is commercial 7.62x39 is starting to come back down.

Even though the WW barrels are US made at least they are chrome
lined.

Damn it all to hell. I really hate being in school. I'm so very tempted to rack up more debt for this but I won't.

Steyr, do you have any opinions on the waffen works guns?

No first hand experience so I can't offer any kind of valid opinion of them.

That said, I would rather have a factory original chrome lined barrel than a US made chrome lined barrel.

I will agree. A new arsenal is the surest way to get a factory barrel any more. My favorite AK's are built out of Russian or Bulgarian kits.

My first experience with AK's was a WASR 10. It's astonishing the difference in quality(finish/solid), accuracy, and feel (action/trigger) my RJ Bulgarian build has over cheaper AK's.
