Nathan Hale @ 21 - "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."
Never realized he was so young.

Just thinking here, what was the life expectancy of those times, checking google, it shows the average was 45 years old during their time frame.

you would definitely have to grow up fast and accomplish a lot with your life expectancy that low.

Contrast that with the gerontocracy we have in Congress now. It looks like a nursing home...

Often sounds like one, too.

There are some, actually many, on that list I would not consider to beFounding Fathers. For example, Andrew Jackson and King George III, just to name a couple.

High infant mortailty greatly skews that number. A very large percentage of children never made it to adulthood.

The original article was titled "Ages of Revolution: How Old were they on July 4, 1776"

OP forgot to remove a couple names :)

It seems to me that the expectation bar has been lowered for our youth over the generations, perhaps in connection to life expectancy.

I can only dream of a US where a 17 year old is expected to carry himself as an adult and held responsible as one.

That is great gouge you posted on our founding fathers. I wonder what will motivate the youth these days to take an interest in such a defiant idea as preserving freedom at all cost...
