I bought some projos that were advertised as ss109 pul downs. When I went through them a lot of them did not have a crimp groove, but all the tips are magnetic. Do they have ss109 without the crimp groove?

I haven't seen any U.S. SS109 projectiles without a cannelure. Could the projectiles without a cannelure be Chinese 64g?

You might want to measure the suspect projectiles bearing surface diameter with a caliper or micrometer and weigh them with an accurate scale.

Measured oal of both and they're .903-.907 weights on 2 scales were 62.6-62.8.

What about the diameter? If I remember correctly the chinese projectiles are 5.8mm, which is roughly 0.233".

If you get any information from the vendor, I would be interested to know who makes a steel core .223 projectile without a cannelure.

Measured 25 of them all were .2235-.2240

I bought them off a private sale on tos. Trying to find his contact info and ask him.

It sounds like you are safe to reload these. Watch your crimp on the projectiles without cannelures closely, so you don't have any issues with set back while chambering and firing. It does not happen often, but when it does it is not good.

I assume you're just reloading blasting ammo with these. Who gives a damn about a crimp if that's the case, load them up and blast them.

It makes no difference to me, the reason I asked I ended up getting a good amount of prvi 75gr hp and was going to sell some of these to cover the cost, I just didn't want to misrepresent what I was selling

Do they have green tips? There are penetrater 62 grain bullets from non-NATO countries that aren't made to NATO specs and the tip shape can cause feeding issues in some M4's. These are from Switzerland, Austria, some Asian countries and early production Australian 5.56 ammunition.

A couple of years ago Australia switched to a bullet based on the SS109 and painted the tips green on the newer design. This was done because Australian special forces likes to use M4's instead of AUG's. They had feeding and gas system problems and redesigned their 5.56 ammunition to also function in M4's.

Of the cannelured bullets, most foreign-made bullets have plain cannelures while US-made bullets have knurled cannelures.

Gotcha, makes sense.

Are the tips painted green? I only ask because I have 2000 IMI 62 gr bullets squirreled away that have the steel penetrator, but no cannelure, no green tip, and no crimp groove. I bought them reasonably enough many years ago, and they've (ahem) appreciated in value considerably. We just don't see things like this much anymore.

No green tips, the ones with cannule have slight pull marks the ones without don't. I got an email back from the gentleman I bought them from, he wouldn't say who his supplier is, but he was told they are lake city that for whatever reason never went through processing and had the cannule formed in them.
