I was loading the 75gr Swift Scirocco and could not adjust my dies far enough down. The best I could get was 2.270. I found a piece of shim and wedged in the shellholder to give the case a tighter fit and was able to get 2.255. Will an extended shell holder cure this problem or a shell holder specifically for 223 work? I was using a Lee and RCBS shellholders.

Did you adjust your seater properly?

It was set up right, I loaded some 70gr TSX earlier, but when I went to the Scirocco, I ran the seating adjustment all the way down and still didn't get it deep enough, never had it happen it with TSX, 77gr MK etc. .. It was a Lee seating die if it matters.

Adjust it to the new bullet. Back the seater plug all the way up(or close to all the way) and then screw the die down. Try that

Adjust it to the new bullet. Back the seater plug all the way up(or close to all the way) and then screw the die down. Try thatYup readjusting seater die for differ weight/types of bullets is good idea.

The best I got with the adjustments was 2.265, using the shim to push the rim tight against the top of the shellholder was the only way I could get 2.255

I suppose you could try milling a few thousandths off the top of the shell holder to allow the ram to go a bit higher. Is the Scirocco a VLD bullet? What COL does Swift show for your combination? Your seating die may simply have an incompatible seating insert for your bullets ogive. Lee dies are often shorter than other brands too, so there may not be enough body adjustment available.

Yes its a vld bullet oal length from swift was 2.255. Didn't think about having the shell holder milled, I'll try that this week.
