I don't browse magazine racks very much, but today I noticed various AR magazines on the shelf at the local Walmart.

Any better than others?

Any that are full of it...?

Thanks!

Not strictly AR, but Recoil and SWAT are two of my favorites.

While not strictly AR15 related, both Recoil and World of Firepower are my two favorites.

+1 on Recoil! It's a little of everything tactical but nearly always has something AR-related.

And, maybe it's just me, but I love the fact that it's printed on thick, high quality paper.

SWAT has been a favorite of mine for years. RECOIL has som great pics (gun porn) and their editorial content has improved since there editor made sone foolish remark in regards to gun control.

I've been reading SWAT for a few years now, they are the only gun rag I've seen actually call a gun junk and publish it. I'm trying to warm up to RECOIL but after the editorial that nearly killed them off I've been holding a bit of a grudge.

FWIW, the editor who made those remarks is no longer at the magazine. He was replaced by Ian Harrison (of Top Shot fame).

I haven't bought paper copies of magazines in some time now, but I used to read Special Weapons for Military & Police as well as Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement. Going along though, I more or less figured out there was no such thing as a gun they didn't love. But generally they have some decent articles on new stuff coming out. And the "There I was" column (don't recall which mag it was in) was always a good read with some good lessons learned.

Shotgun News has some pretty good C&R articles if you are looking into that sorta thing.

Have yet to see an issue of Guns and Ammo, Guns Magazine or Handgunner without at least one 1911 blurb that wasn't an add. Or something about a safari grade rifle.

Gun Tests was pretty good when I was still buying it. They actually throw in things they don't like about a particular weapon. Generally good reviews.

But overall, you are going to get your most unbiased reviews and testing on the internet like Vuurwapen Blog or The Firearms Blog for the most part. Most gun magazines end up with the writers swooning over a new gadget that reminds you of teenage girl giddiness at a One Direction concert. And you end up with a full page spread of same gadget a few pages after the article.

I read Recoil and SWAT. They both have informative content that tends to go beyond the glorified advertisements that other magazines include as articles.
