Anyone know of a kydex holster maker that makes a holster for the 686?

I have a 2.5 inch 686 that I would like the optionality to carry. Thanks.

Is your gun a 6-shot or 7-shot model? S&W CS told me that all 686 cylinders are the same diameter, but the flutes on a 6 vs 7 are in different places on the cylinder. FIST and CompTac both make kydex holsters for the 6-shot version, but I don't know of any kydex holsters molded for a 7-shot version.

As far as I know, there's no dummy gun available for the 7-shot versions. There are 686s out there with unfluted cylinders too such as the TALO guns; those would require a different kydex molding as well.

I am working with FIST to try to get them to make one for my wife's 7-shot fluted 3" 686. I'm not sure when I'll know how this turns out, probably in a few weeks. I have no experience working kydex, but perhaps one could alter a holster made for a 6-shot to fit a 7-shot version with judicious use of a heat gun.

Thanks for the reply. It's a 686-5, so a 7 shot no lock.

It's a great blast, just would like to find me a quality holster.

I'm using a Kramer Leather horsehide belt scabbard for my 3" 686+. I like the Kramer holsters much better than kydex. They are not much thicker and are much easier on the gun finish. The horsehide is so stiff it is a lot like kydex. They offer several styles for the 686 series.

Kramer holsters are not cheap but they wear very well.

Bladetech's site lists the 2.5" 686 for their OWB. You may want to call and see if the 7 shot cylinder will be an issue. Looking at their pics I don't think it will.

For my 625 I went with leather. The express line of Mitch Rosen that is sold through Dillon.

I think leather is the route I will end up going. Struggling to find a holster that is attainable in a decent amount of time.

Here is another possible source of absolutely top quality horsehide holsters. I have several from Ken Null. His work is unique IME and historically his turn around times are reasonable.

Take a look at Simply Rugged. They make a ton of configurations.

Just found Zorn holsters today while looking for something. Their site doesn't seem to list them in the pull-downs... But their FB page has several photos of kydex with wheel guns in them.

Contact Comp Tac and ask them about your revolver. They may do some custom work. What you're looking for doesn't seem terribly unreasonable.
