Horizontally split rings vs. Vertical

Are horizontally split rings such as are on the Bobro superior to vertically split rings such as on the ADM mounts? I read this claim on Optics Talk, but the guy making the assertion also makes an AR mount with horizontal rings.

I think larue's website tells their reasoning behind the vertical. Something to not torquing the scope. You also have diagonally split like Spuhr
