I've been wearing one over here for the past 4 or 5 months. I like it a lot. It is light years better than the "riggers belt" that they issue. The only thing I don't like it trying to fish it through the uniform belt loops, but its really not that big a deal.

This is my first belt with the cobra release so I don't have anything to compare it to. Let me know if you have any questions.

I've been thinking of getting a riggers belt since I keep wearing out my "traditional" style belts.

Is there anything special about the Oakley belt compared to some of the other cheaper ones (Here is an HSGI):

Same cobra buckle, but a lot cheaper. Is the Oakley just more expensive because it is an Oakley or does it have some other feature I'm not noticing?

does the 1" webbing make anything better or easier? i don't imagine so, but figured i'd ask.

the oakley does have some unique features, but these features aren't necessarily useful at all.

firstly it's not a cobra buckle. the raptor buckle is made in america and it probably works the same but it's definitely not the same. no one cares though.

it has combo webbing. a 1" webbing for adjustment. but unlike the other belts that use 1" webbing it does not have the weird overlap which i personally dislike.

however the result is also that it can be adjusted larger to the point where all you have is 1" webbing and no thicker belt underneath to support holsters or mag carriers.

there is very likely nothing wrong with this. maybe if you're between sizes it would become a problem. but if you're that desperate then you can mount the belt so that the bucks is to one side or the other of centerline as many people do.

i find it odd that they have a buckle that uses 1" webbing and forces them to taper the ends of the belt where it meets the buckle, but the buckle is no smaller than a 1.5" type and hence the belt buckle while still threaded to the belt is no easier to thread through belt loops on pants. sure looks cool.

the d ring for mounting a carabiner is fabric but it doesn't look rigid like some of the other types of belts out there.

these types of belts with the rigid fabric d ring are garbage in my opinion. sometimes the d ring is present on the front and the back of the belt. they tend to be knock offs too.

also the belt you linked is 1.75" and this one is 1.5". i prefer 1.5" because all my gear is looped for a 1.5" belt, a carryover from when i used to wear beltman leather. also 1.5 is possible to thread through typical casual wear from most brands without having to unthread the buckle. a huge convenience factor.

Looking at the pictures, I think I would stick with the Oakley belt. The 1" webbing doesn't really do a whole lot, but it is easy to adjust which is handy in cold weather if you are tucking in extra clothes or something like that. I also like the slim profile of the belt.

I had one. It runs small (I'm a Medium 34 waist), the medium was a little loose tightened up as far as it would go and it's floppy as all hell. I sold it. I would recommend a 215 Gear Cobra belt instead (have one and use it as my rigger's belt on my uniform).
