I don't think the low-cost RDS clones would stand up to this...

Lol. Cool photos, but looks pretty far afield from the needs of the vast majority. Doesn't look like any part of my home defense plan.

Photoshop?? Sure guys swim with their guns but setting up to shoot under water... I don't think so. The bullet would not go far even if the barrel didn't rupture. I would like to know how long after exiting the water do you have to wait before firing. I imagine the guns guys swim with have a few extra holes in them for drainage. At least in the receiver extension and magazine. Any Seals listening? GH

What, me specifically?

Well, I do have an Aimpoint, but as has been pointed out, this is a little outside of my scope of activities.

But they even donned boonie hats for the second shot!

Seriously though, the pics are cool looking. This is just a hair outside my realm though.

So, do we conclude that deep water capability of an RDS is indicative of its overall quality? I'm OK with that concept, but does that mean that the Aimpoint H-1 or R-1 (which are touted around here as being "every bit as good as the T-1") are therefore significantly inferior to the T-1?

H-1 rated waterproof to 15 feet.
T-1 rated waterproof to 80 feet.

Awesome pictures. Makes me want to gear up and go for a swim.

This might come in handy for me when I'm swimming off the coast of AZ...

Perhaps totally off-topic, but why is it that pistols seem to function perfectly fine underwater (I done seen it on Youtube!), but apparently water will **** up your rifle?

Duh, global warming is coming. When the polar ice caps are all melted we'll all be under water:D

Not necessarily. There are hypercavitating projectiles with significant range in water. I don't know if that is just fired into water, or underwater firing, though.

I always thought that was when fired into the water from the surface.

Isn't it generally regarded as a horrible idea to fire a gun underwater? Seems to me so long as the optic can get wet it is good to go. I would say very very few people need a Scuba ready optic.

No, if firearm is rated for such exercise. There are reasons, why G36 is very popular among maritime SOF units (at least in my neighborhood).

But if there is need to actually hit something underwater and do some harm, I would prefer APS or ASM-DT :)

In response to barrel rupturing and projectile range, I am going to park this here.

In the video, he is using a Kalashnikov. I am sure a .556 or .762 would do better, but this is a great reference.

I'll add this old video as well, although we are off topic from the OP
