Aimpoint has been awarded a new contract to supply the Army.

My question is will this be the new generation sight found on the Swedish AK5 rifle as seen below? Some have referenced this as the "M4".

Any knowledgeable types out there with more details?

Scroll down. No information about what exactly will be supplied, hence the reason for my question.

The photo is the newest Aimpoint offering. I was wondering if that might be what the Army is looking at.

This is merely a delivery order on an existing contract for M68 CCO. This order is for 9,200 M68.

There was contract from Picatinny earlier in the year for a small number of Comp M4. It certainly appears to have the potential for becoming a much larger order.

IIRC. This is the new sight that doesn't have a user replacable battery. I have a friend who works at Aimpoint and he mentioned that these were being used in Europe and being tested by the US Military. Basically the battery life is so long that when it dies you send it back to Aimpoint for rebuilding etc. He's had one for a few months but I just haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

I talked to a "Insider" at Aimpoint yesterday, and he said battery testing was interanlly released and the M2 and M3 actully have the same battery life.
