Wolf 223 SRP

What powders play well with Wolf .223 Small Rifle Primers. I have 5K of them and they do not completely burn the Winchester 748 Ball Powder I have stocked up on. I usually use CCI 400 SRP with Win748 but there were none to be found at reasonable prices during the panic. Now I'm stuck with 5K Wolf .223 SRP to use up and need to know what powders will burn with them in .223 loads. As always thanks for helping me out.

What firearm and barrel length do you have and what exactly do you mean the powder does not completely burn? Winchester 748 can burn dirty at lower pressures but I have never seen unburnt powder.

Answer:
KVB223=standard primer and standard cup. May not work with some powders.

KVB223M=standard primer as above, but with thicker cups. Better able to handle high pressure loads. Lower risk of slamfire in semis. May not work with some powders.

KVB556M=actual magnum primer with same thick cups as KVB223M. These should work with any powder.

Yes, the part numbers can be misleading. It does not help that companies that sell them take it one step farther and list them under names like small rifle (KVB223), small rifle 223 (KVB223M) and small rifle magnum (KVB556M).

I would use them as follows:

KVB223 - 30 Carbine, 22 Hornet, 223 Rem with extruded powders

KVB223M - 223 ammo for ARs with extruded powders

KVB556M - Full power 5.56 loads using ball powders

Thanks Biged! By not burning I mean the load leaves some ball powder in the chamber and as it accumulates it will stop rounds from chambering all the way. I do not have a gun problem. Just was looking for a compatible powder and your post answered my question. I have some Varget and XBR that will work with the Wolf .223 srp according to your reply data, thanks again.

I use a lot of 748 powder, look at the flash photos of the "Small Rifle Primer Study" link, after see the photos of the primers I started using Remington primers with my ball powder loads.

Besides using 748 in my ARs I also have a Winchester 30-30 Trapper model with a 16 1/2 inch barrel, I had to use magnum primers and keep the load in the upper range with 748 or else the powder was dirty meaning carbon soot.

As a side note many shooters at AccurateShooter.com have very good SD and ES with the Wolf primers.

You might try some the stick powders, IMR3031,4895 or Varget (if you can find it). They seem to ignite easier. I know what you mean about the poor ignition. The lots of Wolf SRP I had would not ignite H335 well at all. Got many duds and hang fires. The guys here have had better results with the Wolf magnum primers and ball powder.

Benchmark, H322, and TAC will run with those primers. Also, CFE seemed to run good for me. H335 is a No Go.
