In addition to the controversy with Helseth, the National Park Service has been involved in several other incidents that have outraged Americans. For instance, the Obama administration has closed public areas that stayed open in past shutdowns.

Rangers locked a tour group, including senior citizens and foreign visitors, in a hotel as they visited Yellowstone National Park when the shutdown began.

The tour guide told the local newspaper, the Livingston Enterprise, that the Park Service used "Gestapo tactics."

The service told Bruce O'Connell to close his inn and restaurant, the Pisgah Inn. It sits on federal land on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. Initially, he complied but then re-opened it. But the service closed him down -- with armed rangers.

One angry Park Service ranger in Washington told the Washington Times, "We've been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It's disgusting."

The Weekly Standard said, "The conduct of the National Park Service over the last week might be the biggest scandal of the Obama administration."

Congressional Republicans say they're getting numerous reports on the matter and will investigate. CBN News contacted the National Park Service for an interview but the calls were not returned.

So much for all that post "Sandy Hook" bluster revolving around the refusal to enforce tyrannical, or unconstitutional edicts from the "national democratic socialists!"

The only people who said anything about that, who were actually in a position to be serious about it, were the county sheriffs.

The Park Service is not a county sheriff.

And some people wonder why other people surmise that when things finally go sideways that other people still who happen to be under the direction and orders of the gov will not do things that are especially reprehensible in nature.

I hope folks analyze the actions of these officials. When the meltdown happens for real they will be out there again with force...

All you need to do to figure that out is look at history.

The officers and commanders and SNCOs (or the overwhelming majority of them) of the Reichswehr willingly became the Wehrmacht and willingly followed Hitler's orders. Some of them gladly, some not so much, but they all followed them. Even when Jews and political and sexual "deviants" were being rounded up and thrown into gas chambers, the military did as they were ordered to. Even men like Erwin Rommel. It was not until Germany's fortunes in the war turned for the worse that some of them decided to turn on the Leader.

The story is the same with the German police. They followed orders. Even when the fascist thugs that they used to regularly arrest were given badges and guns, they followed orders. Even when those same thugs were given promotions and political appointments and given authority over the older police officers, they followed their orders. Even when they were asked to assist in arresting and detaining and transporting Jews and political and sexual "deviants", when they were asked to assist in hunting down Partizans... they followed orders.

The same story repeated itself in Japan and Italy and Hungary (and, to a lesser extent, Rumania and Spain). It repeated itself in the former-Yugoslavia.

People who take orders from figures of authority will always take orders from figures of authority. For better or worse. The sheepdog is, as a dog, a pack animal, just like the wolf. If a wolf is its alpha....

Don't forget all the local and auxiliary police in the German-occupied countries that did most of the rounding up of "undesirables" for the Germans. Particularly in France.

The movie "Defiance" illustrates this, too. As do many others...

These diligent maintainers of law and order were, after all, drawn from the general population...

The Park Service is not a county sheriff.

While I do recall that county sheriffs led the chorus at that time, they were in no way the only voices out of the white noise, particularly at online 2nd amendment and firearms sites! We could I am certain, delve through the search function of this very site and demonstrate conclusively the accuracy of said recollection...

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Reopens Waterfowl Production Areas

Due to the ongoing lapse in Congressional appropriations, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service made the decision to close all facilities and lands to public use. The closure comes at an extremely difficult time with hunting seasons just underway, fall migratory bird migrations at their peak, and hundreds of communities forced to cancel events as part of National Wildlife Refuge Week. With approximately 78 percent of its employees furloughed, we determined it would be difficult for the remaining, non-furloughed workforce to ensure the safety of facilities, lands, and resources, in a manner that incurs no further financial obligation to the U.S. Government.

Despite limited staffing, the Service has undertaken an assessment to determine what, if any, potential exists to open lands to public use consistent with our obligations under the government-wide shutdown. It has been determined that allowing public access to Waterfowl Production Areas (WPAs) will not incur further government expenditure or obligation and is allowable under a government shutdown. Therefore, effective immediately, all WPAs will reopen to public use.

As the shutdown continues, if the Service determines that maintaining the WPAs in open status, individually or cumulatively, would likely cause Service expenditures or obligations to be made in violation of the Anti-Deficiency Act, the Service will close public access.

Additional information about the Service’s efforts to support conservation on national wildlife refuges can be found at http://www.fws.gov/ which will be operational after the shutdown ends. Shutdown-related information continues to be available at www.DOI.gov/shutdown.

The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. We are both a leader and trusted partner in fish and wildlife conservation, known for our scientific excellence, stewardship of lands and natural resources, dedicated professionals and commitment to public service.
