I'm gathering components for a build. I already have M4 flat top upper receiver and a lower receiver. Last night I picked up a Daniel Defense 16" lightweight midlength stripped barrel. My plan is to install a Magpul midlength handguard. I'd like to have some sort of flip up sights on the upper receiver and the gas block. The gas blocks at a LGS would slide on fine, but appear to have their rails in a lower plane than that of the upper receiver. Does someone make a 0.625" inside diameter gas block that has a rail in the same plane as the flat top upper receiver? Or, is there a better way to solve this problem?

Can Magpul handguards be used without an FSB?

Options:
1. Get used to a standard front sight base.
2. Gas block with integrated folding sight.
3. There are some folding front sights out there that are taller than normal in order to fit on those stupid railed gas blocks.

If a handguard cap is installed behind the gas block, non-floating handguards can still be used without a fixed front sight.

Yes...

I know of at least 3 manufacturers of rail height gas blocks, but I'm sure there are others.

That would work, but I already have a front and rear sight setup that I'm hoping to use.

Those would work, but they're for 0.750" diameter barrels. I need one for a 0.675" diameter barrel.

Oh, I guess I missed that part. The Vltor unit wouldn't work either.

This still isn't matching your criteria, but it does address the specific problem you're facing.

If the product that KL Davis suggested doesn't "do it for you" then you might consider going with a free float forearm like a Samson Evo or Troy Alpha.

I know you seemed to have your heart set on using the MOE handguard... sorry.

I assume you mean .625". Battle Tested Equipment offers US made rail height gas blocks for .625" barrels.
