View Full Version : Show me your "well worn" handguns!!
The Dumb Gun Collector

Hey guys,
I guess I am a sicko, but I prefer the look of a well-worn handgun to a shiny new gun. Anybody have any pics of their old war horses?:)
My SIG P226.
It's got a few more battle scars now, having been through a number of Vickers classes in all elements.

The XD is mine, not alot wear yet due to low round count(for now).
The Colt is my grandfathers service pistol, and has seen its better days. Still goes boom everytime I pull the trigger.

Now those two pistols are great! There is some kind of special "aura" about a great service pistol with honest wear on it. It kinda speaks to you...

Derek,
That clipped hammer and old school grip safety are sure a retro touch. I remember using that setup back in the late 70s and early 80s on a couple of 1911 duty guns. I had a hell of a callous and scar on my gun hand web!
Derek,
Whats the story behind your Yost/Tripp 1911? Looks good. I'm suprised you never went with a beavertail.

Derek,

I love beavertails, but I never really needed them..
It started out a Yost 1* package, and then I still wanted some other things done to it so I sent it to Virgil just before he stopped doing custom work on 1911s...
And since then...its been rocking and rolling...
Actually now that I look at the pistol, its had Yost/Tripp/Chuck Rogers work done to it, with Hilon's mag release..and one more person finger screwed that gun I just forget who...
Shit. That's not well worn. That's gross neglect.
Nothing a little CLP can't get off.:D It was just high ferric-content dirt/dust that coated the gun during a match. I made the mistake of leaving the gun in the hard case for week (neglect). The dirt had oxidized, but the slide was fine. The reddish dust just rubbed right off. Trust me, I'll never do that again.

Old family-owned 1993 Massachusetts police trade-in 2nd-gen G19, recently acquired for carry/training. It still has the stock sights, a horrendous heavy liability-proof trigger, and a trio of 10-round Clinton Clips.
The wear is from its service life in a PD holster; I've only shot an IPSC intro course with it. I plan to change sights, springs, barrel, trigger, and magazines.

Damn dude did you find that thing at the bottom of a puddle?? That is past the point of cleaning, it probably needs to be refinished.
ETA: NM saw the updated pics, it's a testament to the SIG finish how well that pistol cleaned up. Looks nice now!

great pics.
nothing shameful about a gun that looks "hard ridden" via honest use.
91 years and 2 World Wars worth of wear, still one of the most accurate and smooth firing handguns I have ever shot.

S&W mod. 36 (cir. 1964) a real beater. Picked it up for $100.00. Got it all straightened up.
It now works just fine,

S&W mod. 60, Police trade in [1982].
This mod. 60 was in such poor condition, I thought it was a total lose.
It had so much garbage in it, I had to scrub it for several hours to get all the crud out.
The S&W had a cracked hammer spur, so I "bobbed" it.
It appeares the mod. 60 had a lot of blanks shot through it (K-9 training?).
In the end, it cleaned up real well.
