Images of Taiwanese soldiers decked out in black body armour and ballistic masks have gone viral thanks to exposure on Japanese news sites, where viewers compared the look of the officers to something out of a video game or comic book.

They have some sweet Batman black face paint going on underneath those Casey Jones-esque masks.

I've always wondered - let's assume these are IIIA at most - wouldn't a 9mm to the face break nearly every bone in it anyway? I mean, you won't die, but I'll bet you wish you were. Especially since you might not have gotten shot in the first place if you weren't wearing that thing to begin with.

.

Thanks for the higher res pics: notice their national flag on their left shoulder, the sun is facing to the rear. Curious as why it isn't facing the front as one would expect on a para-military or military unit.

I would have to guess that if you took a round between the eyes wearing one of those, you wouldn't die but you may be drooling into a bib for the rest of your life. That projectile has to transfer energy somewhere.

If they are getting shot with a 22 or .38 yea, awesome maybe that mask will work.

7.62?

I doubt they'll be able to ever smile properly.

I'm more curios about the Mac10s being issued. Seems a very odd choice to me.

No eyepro. Ballistic masks from the mid-90s. MAC-11. Taiwan.

I see a strong Airsoft influence....

They look like bad guys from a Metal Gear installment.
The Mac-10s are an odd choice, as well.

1970's hockey masks are back in fashion?

While intimidating, I would rather be wearing a helmet and eye pro. Peripheral must be next to nothing.

The Uzi-fied Mac's are interesting. Mini-Uzi style stocks, with Uzi style sights, handguard and Uzi type barrel nut.

I like the shotguns with the pistol grip but 20"+ barrel which that 1 pound muzzle brake.

I understand why they want to intimidate the crowds with the ninja stuff, but it always makes for horrible PR when some jack booted thug is going full Rodney King on little woman.

I think they should dress up as clowns. While not totally scary, they are sufficiently creepy while not being totally threatening. Make the battons into bouquets of mylar flowers. Smiley faces on the shields. Then the images are of clowns beating on people, not ballistic ninjas. That and kids then know to stay away from clowns.

I think ballistic masks were popular here with some agencies but they are virtually never seen anymore. The Russians field a extra heavy helmet with a pretty serious face shield for certain situations, can't remember what it was called though.

Cool parade, where are the floats and flowers?

I am more interested in why each chest rig / vest seems to be kitted up the same regardless of the long gun carried.
