I have the standard a2 m4 gas block on my rifle and was looking into a scope and wanted to know how high does it need to be mounted to get a clear view over the gas block? How tall does the cantilever mount need to be?

If you place the scope to high your chin will be off the stock. With a 3x or more powered optic, you will not see the tower. You will see a shadow in the bottom/lower scope window.

Thanks I wondered if it would do that. Any good cantilever mounts you suggest for a 3-9x32 scope?

I have a 1.5X ACOG in a Larue mount and the FSP is 'visible', but it's not an issue. It's a bit fuzzy and not any kind of distraction. You should be fine with any quality mount that allows for proper eye relief and cheek weld.
