I have recently painted my AR (will post pics later) but the colors didn't come out the way I wanted...

I just returned from the sandbox and I was wanting my AR to be desert colors/scheme. A base coat of tan, with a very light brown as a break up pattern.

I used Molson's tips (shoutout**thanks bro**) and the pattern turned out good, just not the color I was hoping for.

I used Krylon Tan, OD, and Brown. The brown is way too dark for what I'm looking for, like I said, I'm looking for an extremely light brown.

Any ideas?:D

Thanks for the props!

It sounds like you used the regular brown paint. I use Krylon's "Medium Brown" when painting my rifles as it is obviously a lighter shade of brown. It's hard to find, but I'm sure you can find some on the internet or maybe special order it from a local store.

Here's a place I just found using google for the color I use:

Ahhh, medium brown...

Yep, I have the regular brown, because it is dark. I was wondering how you got your brown so light...:D

Thanks again, bro.

I love my "dark" brown and a few others out there like it too ;)

Rustoleum makes a lot of medium tans and browns too- don't forget to browse those at the local home improvement center.

Krylon color chart (4.3mb download): http://www.themanstoreonline.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/77-84-krylon%20colorcard.pdf

Don't be afraid to try colors outside of the camo line. They have plenty of other good flat colors in other lines. I'm going to give that textured stuff a try on the next rifle I spray.

I would have tried Rustoleum but I put in on my Safariland drop-leg holster(M9)for the box and was repainting it on a monthly basis due to peeling and flaking... I have since applied Krylon to the Glock Safariland and it is working much better.
