Scientologist and general delusional ego maniac on his job via court docs:

" Tom says his location shoots are just like serving a tour in Afghanistan, "That's what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal. It was brutal."
For his physical training, Tom said, "There is difficult physical stamina and preparation. Sometimes I've spent months, a year, and sometimes two years preparing for a single film." But the kicker, he adds, "A sprinter for the Olympics, they only have to run two races a day. When I'm shooting, I could potentially have to run 30, 40 races a day, day after day."

Per usual, Tom is a class act all the way... :nono:

Maybe he is filming a movie about an Olympic sprinter and was filmed in Afghanistan??

Old Tom getting defended by pro gun:

Me: Meh, my sympathy meter for Cruise is currently at zero. The reason it's so easy to believe he said this one, is due to the long list of fully confirmed moronic stuff he's said over many years, pretty much every chance he gets. So, taken out of context? Sure. A bed he made for himself to be roasted via the media when ever possible as a loony tune? Yes.

Your mileage may vary on Tom :dance3:

I see he is a member of F-A-G (the Film Actors Guild) . . .

He is nuttier than squirrel shit. Not just about this but as a person he is a nut in general.

I've read 2 reports that the initial claim is false or at least very misleading in terms of context.

False or not, maybe we should pay the guys in Afghanistan the same rates Cruise gets paid, since it "appears" that the grunts and Tom are working equally hard. Or pay Cruise on scale with the military, either way works for me.

Why bother paying attention to what celebrities have to say?

Many are quite talented at their craft, but have no expertise at anything else - but for reasons I can't fathom, many seem to think because they can act, dance, sing they're experts at everything they take an interest in.

They're not and should simply be ignored.

No muss. No fuss. No attention warranted. No need for antacids...

Yeah, looks like it's just more bullshit from the celebrity gossip rag TMZ. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story. Out-of-context quotes remain a valuable tool of journalism.

If interested (and I can't blame for having none!) one can read the actual deposition it's from. Out of context yes. But, he's still a flaming D bag. :)

If he said it or not, he is crazy as a sprayed roach. And he said a lot of things over the years that are a the least dumb an at the other extreme inflammatory and he should be ashamed.

Cultist. Nuff said.

"Tom Cruise Returns from 39th Combat Tour" : http://www.duffelblog.com/2013/11/tom-cruise-returns-39th-combat-deployment-burbank-california/

The DuffelBlog is way more accurate than TMZ, anyway.

We should pay about as much attention to Cruise's comments on ANYTHING as we do looking to Runners World Mag for gun rights advice.

Typical Hollywood elitist thinking they have "difficult" jobs. Anyone here would be able to do the same thing if they had a literal army of people backing them up and training them day in, day out, in order for them to be at their peak fitness level.

Our soldiers don't have 1/100th of that.

Stick it up your ass, Cruise.

Apparently the media is walking this one back. Seems they selected some specific quotes but left out the ones where he said at the end of the day they were just making movies and not fighting wars.

I'm no huge TC fan but I don't think even he is stupid enough to think he is a soldier. I've also seen that guy Jake Gillenhal <sp> cross a cavern on a rope with one of those survival guys. Some of those actors are actually in pretty good shape. I can't stand a lot of their politics nor do I think they are soldiers by any stretch of the imagination but I do appreciate anyone that sets out to perfect their chosen craft which TC apparently puts a lot of effort into. People can be quoted out of context quite easily and the media loves doing it. I think this is no more than run of the mill media sensation. Check out counter tabloid headlines.

He doesn't have to be my buddy for me to enjoy some of his movies. I will say his gun handling in Collateral was pretty damn good.

This is because the director (Michael Mann) hires Mick Gould (former SAS) as a technical advisor on all his films and puts his actors through extensive small-arms training during the pre-production process. VooDoo6Actual brought this to my attention in another thread that pertained to Hollywood and firearms training.

Yes, I was aware of that. But as to Cruise - yes he has made some loser movies, but I have enjoyed Collateral, Minority Report, Top Gun, Valkyrie, War of the Worlds, A Few Good Men, Oblivion, The Last Samurai and all of the MI movies. So what if he is looney in his private life (to the thread, not you personally)?

Mark's somewhat rebuttal to TC.

Mark Wahlberg lashed out at actors who equate their jobs to being soldiers in a war, going off on expletive-filled rant during a question-and-answer segment following a Tuesday screening of his film, “Lone Survivor.”

ETA: TC gun handling and tactics in Collateral are excellent, one of my favorite movies. I've also heard he is a 1911 aficionado....

I see my family less in my civilian job, and work harder, than I ever did in the military. Am I allowed to say that?
