I am almost done refinishing my gear closet, still up in the air for storage/shelving. Was wondering if I could get some inspiration, mine is going to have shelving, safes, and maybe some work area, also trying to figure out how to best organize packs, carriers, etc.

Anyways, if you have a dedicated room or space for your gear, throw up some pics!

Just moved into a bigger house, and I have to say it's really nice not to have my stuff crammed into a little closet along with the wife's shoes, winter coats, board games, etc. I've finally got my own dedicated ammo and gear room. Smaller, lighter things go on the bookcase and wire shelves, while the heavy stuff is just stacked on the floor.

I'll probably eventually put up more shelves. I start with 1x4s laid horizontally along the wall drilled into the studs. Those support the shelves. Then a 1x16 (or whatever fits the space) laid on top for the actual shelf. Put your 1x4s on three sides into the studs and they'll hold up a lot of weight. Get good wood and stain it with Minwax to make it look nice. I don't care for those wire shelves but these were put in by the previous owner. They work so I'll keep them. For hanging things I use steel closet rods. They come in 72" pieces at Lowes for $20. You can cut them shorter with a dremel in 30 seconds. Mounting hardware is sold right next to it, O and U-shaped pieces. But I throw out those little 1/2" screws they come with and use something longer, like 2". I want as much support as possible. When you start hanging clothes and gear the weight really starts to add up. I have about 15 suits and shit is heavy. Here are some pictures from what I did in my and the wife's closets. This is how I do all my storage shelves.

Woman's shoes, not ammo or Pmags, but you get the idea.

As built. Nothing special or fancy. I'm just glad there's a light in this one. My old house didn't have lights in the closets unless it was a walk in closet.

For shelves in my storqe room I used the Costco wire bakers racks. Overall hight is 6'-0" and can be used as 2/ 3'-0" sections. Comes with one set of wheels so one of the sections will roll around. Each shelf is rated to 500 lbs. and I have them loaded full with ammo. No problem with loading them up, probably have 800 lbs on one unit.
