View Full Version : How about Wilson Combat?
Curious about what everyone thinks about Wilson Tac rifles? Does Stag make the lowers?
there are many better options for much less money.
What would you suggest for $1000? M4 style. Nothing too fancy.
A 4140, non chrome lined, 1:9 twist RRA midlength and a bunch of practice ammo with the left over money.

I think he's comparing the 4140 non-chromelined barrel of the RRA to that of the Wilson Combat because you can get the same "features" for less money with the RRA.
I attended a class last November with Super Dave Harrington and he ran a Wilson Combat for his personal weapon. He did seem bothered by the lack of chrome-lining, 1:9 twist, lack of M4 feedramps, lack of bayo lug, etc.
The guy can flat out shoot even without all the cool stuff. Go figure.

Is a Wilson dealer and he always has a couple
of UT's or M4t's in the window and I was fondling one before
2001 and it had a RRA lower on it ? And for a couple years
after it seemed the Ut's or M4t's he stocked all had RRA lowers ?
Thats how I ran across RRA I didn't know from AR's except about Colts,BM's.
But he told me that there are only a few foundries
around the country which cast AR15 lower receivers -
so wouldn't that substaniate Doublestars claim that
"All AR's are parts guns with a few negative exceptions."
If such is true wouldn't that indicate that every AR15 lower
regardless of manufacturer could have a possibility of being
cast at the same foundry used by company 'C' or 'W' last month/year?
- FLAME AWAY its just a question I've always had and since
matgyver opened the can of worms we'll see if it can be answered.
Most AR15 receivers are made by LMT or CMT. They are forged, not cast.

Most Colts are made by CMT. BMs are made by BFI a Bushy owned company or LAR.

There is not or was not ever a few foundries only
'forging' AR15 lowers for the manufacturing masses ?

Colt doesn't make their own? I didn't know this. Interesting...

LAR is not owned by Bushmaster nor do they make the Bushmaster rifle. They are a machine shop that sub contracts receivers for companies such as BM, DPMS, AMEETEC, etc. LAR is in West Jordan, UT and BM is all the way out in Maine. Also, not all Bushmaster rifles use LAR receivers, early guns had CMT receivers.
LMT has made some receivers for BFI.
CMT makes Colt receivers.
