Thompson/Center Contender "pistol"

So I deer hunt in SE MN, which is shotgun only, but I found out that you can use a Thompson/Center Contender if it is in their pistol setup. This interests me as an option instead of using a shotgun, I would definitely be interested in being able to use deer loads in .270, .308, etc. does anyone here use this setup for hunting? Part of the issue is my current deer shotgun is a Savage bolt 12 gauge, which I won at a raffle, but it's basically a single shot since the magazine doesn't work well. I'm looking for another option, so I can either get a slug barrel for my 870 super mag or the contender. Thoughts?

The TC Contender will NOT take .270 or .308 pressure levels. If you find someone silly enough to build a barrel for you in any cartidge with this kind of pressure, it will be interesting once. If you are looking for that sort of thing, the TC Encore is what you want. Having said that, I used to have a contender in .30-30 and killed about 30-40 antelope and a few deer with it until my wife decided it would be perfect for her. There are several companies out there that can hook you up with whatever you need.

I'd be plenty happy with a .30-30 TC that'd work perfect for whitetail. I'm glad you mentioned the Encore, I looked at it on their website and that was the model I was trying to find. Thanks macho!

Consider .300 blackout in your TC pistol. Below is a photo of my SBR Encore in .300Black with an 8" MGM pistol barrel.

You can shoot decent high power loads with this cartridge.

I built this rig for shooting subsonic cast lead 245 grain bullets through a suppressor.

I have a TC Contender pistol that I purchased in 1975 in .44 mag with a 10" barrel and it has killed many white tail and hogs, great gun with a T/C 2X scope mounted on it, don't miss a thing.
