Im currently in the market to upgrade my current AR and make a decent replica of a MK18. I can use some guidance. Ive been doing alot of research and it seems as no 2 are the same. From what i gathered theres sopmod block 1,2,3. Ive created a list of what im considering buying and im curious to hear your opinions. I would love to do a sbr version but my state does not allow so 14.5 will be my choice.

BCM BCG
BCM Charge Handle
Eotech 553 (Tan)
Knights Armament Front & Rear Micro Flip Ups
Insight M3X Light or Surefire X300 Ultra or Surefire M300B Scout Light
B5 Enhanced SOPMOD Stock (Tan)
Tango Down (tan pistop grip) or just leave the stock one
Tango Down Short vertical grip (Tan) or Knights Armament Foreward Grip
QD Swivel Mount

What sling choice would you recommend for this build?

This is what ive come up with, once again please let me know your thoughts on what ive picked. I can use any advice. I kinda rushed into building my first AR so im taking more time to do some R&D before i jump the gun. Thanks.

BFG VCAS is what I would recommend.

I got a BFG for my shotgun great sling. I got a Magpul for my AR but its black and im thinking about going the tan route this time for this build.

It depends entirely on how "correct" you want your clone to be, but this is what I would do.

Buy this: http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=6920SOC.

Pull the 16" barrel and buy a 14.5" Colt Socom barrel to replace it. Sell the 16"barrel.
Buy a RIS II in your flavor of choice along with the appropriate accessories and you'll have one hell of a Block II clone.

Uh, that's more like a SOPMOD Block II replica, pretty much nothing to do with a MK 18

Shouldn't it be a carbine length gas 10.3" or 10.5" barrel? To me, that's the heart of the Mk18....

The OP has the block 2 SOPMOD and the mk18mod whoosiwhatzit confused.

as for the barrel length, he lives in one of those states that wouldn't dream of allowing that kind of short barreled killing machine

Hey can't blame New York anything under 16" is highly deadly and super concealable right.

It's not the point dude, what you're describing is a SOPMOD Block II, not a MK 18.

It's like saying "I'm making a pizza but I'm lactose intolerant so I'm going to take a piece of beef and put it between two buns. But it's a pizza."

Google, it's awesome man.

The MK18 is essentially an SBR, with a 10.3" (or is it 10.5"?) barrel.

i googled mk18 and found what i already thought was a mk18, where is the OP being confused then? Sure is confusing me lol.

The OP wants an AR with a 14.5 barrel and a DD RIS II rail- which is basically a SOPMOD Block II clone. In fact make that 14.5 a SOCOM profile and it's an EXACT clone with all the trimmings he posted about.

Please use the correct terminology and understand what you are doing. If you don't have a 10.3"/10.5" upper receiver then it's not a MK18. Also, notice that BCM also doesn't refer to it as a MK18. So what you are building is essentially an M4 variant.

Ok but keep in mind I have no choice I can't have a 10.5" barrel if I could I would so I understand your point it can't be technically a real mk18. I'm basically asking if everything I listed above are good choices to make a decent clone? Have I picked the right choices besides the upper? If I ever move outta this state I'll get the correct upper but for now got no choice.

The part selection is good in terms of quality. It would be a great Block II clone.

based on your parts list above your rifle will be very similar to this?? (missing the surefire)

The Block II is a solid platform. Take a look at some of the threads here and you'll see a lot of variety :)
Good luck and enjoy!

That's exactly what I want. What flips ups and foreward grip are on that rifle?

Since we've pretty firmly established that you're not making a "replica" or "clone" of ANYthing (no SOPMOD and certainly no Mk18 had or as a midlength gas system)....this has turned into a "Is this BCM upper okay....?" and "What sling...?" thread.

It's a BCM upper. Yes, it's okay.

Slings are discussed, in detail and across several years, by punching "sling" into the keyword box of the Single Content tab of Search, selecting thread titles only and limiting the Search to the Tactical Gear subforum. It only nets one about 83 pages of threads. Not posts.....threads.
