View Full Version : BCM 14.5 LW carbine
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/25/8a5unyqa.jpg
Just put this together:
BCM LW 14.5 mid length upper
Centurion arms BCG
Troy fixed rear sight
Seekins precision lower
Palmetto LPK
UCWRG grip 23
Carbine RE w/ H buffer
B5 bravo stock
SOB sling (not pictured)
Put 350 rounds through it last night. No problems with M855, PMC bronze, tula. Tried it on my A5H2 lower and it wouldn't lock back on empty with the weaker ammo but no jams. I'll try it with the A5H1 &0 buffers eventually but I am happy with it with just the regular H buffer. Noticeably softer than my 16 carbine upper.
Picking up an Aimpoint PRO tomorrow for it.
That is a very utilitarian, all business rifle. I like it alot.
I also think that the Aimpoint PRO is a great choice for it as well. I am one of the very few who (slightly) prefer the PRO to the Micro series.
Thank you. My first rifle was a 16" with a 12" rail and a bunch of BS that I didn't need. I learned a lot since then and built this to reflect that.
I will also be picking up a light tomorrow and that should round out this carbine.
I would love a micro, honesty, but I can't justify the cost difference. I would rather spend the cash on ammo & training.

Update:
Put on a Streamlight trl-1 and an Aimpoint PRO and SOB sling.
I put 500 rounds of tula through it this weekend with no problems. It locks back with H-buffer and a standard spring. I will pick up a Sprinco white spring for it soon and maybe later try some lighter weights with my A5 lower on it.
I also want to try a Magpul K2 and see if I like it better than the Umbrella Corp.

That's what I was curious about, if you liked the Umbrella Corp grip or not. I've been wanting to try one of the BCM grips.
I like the Umbrella grip, but I am always on the lookout for improvements that can be made.

Painted er up 2 nights ago, nothing fancy just something to blend it in a little better.
Also replaced the troy fixed rear sight with a magpul mbus that i had laying around. I found I liked it out of the way better.

That's a great build. I have that exact rifle sitting in my safe right now, minus the handguard. Going on 3 weeks waiting for the MOE Midlength! Wtf...
Very cool setup. How do you like the light? I'm running the standard TLR-1 w/ strobe. Any idea how yours compares?

Thanks! Did you order one or can't find one?

Thank you! I like the light a lot and I liked that it came with the pressure switch.
I actually compared both models side by side and the HP had a much tighter beam at range.

Ordered it from Impact Weapons Components. Almost 4 weeks now...
That sucks man, they are in stock locally to me, so if you hadn't been able to find one I would totally pick one up and send it to you.
Looks really nice! The brown truck just dropped off my 14.5LW middy a couple of hours ago. Can't wait to shoot it tomorrow.

Thanks man! After shooting a 14.5 middy, its all I want to shoot now :D noticeably smoother than a 16" carbine.

Oh yeah. It's going from sirloin to a great ribeye... I was shocked as how light a 14.5 middy was after using a buddy's rifle years ago. It's pretty much my favorite configuration now when coupled with an A5 system. It's as though you're shooting a hot rimfire.

I ordered the one with the C4 rail on it and it still feels very light compared to my 16in.

What A5 buffer are you using? I tried it on my A5 lower and it wouldn't lock back 100%

PMC and tula, which I know are under powered, but I want to tune it for the cheap stuff and I know it'll handle 5.56 pressure ammo too. What ammo do you run with the standard buffer?
I'm using AE 55g .223 with my mid gas H buffer and FA BCG. So far 150 rounds cycles perfect.

Right now, various LC head stamps between 10'-12' (M183 and M855), IMI 5.56, and some other 5.56. I don't even know if I have any .223 ammo right now. I should get a box or two of TULA or PMC and see what comes of it.

Hopefully I get to try mine out tomorrow!

Good lookin carbine there!
Good lookin carbine there!
Thanks! I built it for my wife as a Christmas present. Lower, trigger, and T-1 came from G&R. I got the upper from Bravo Company. Lightweight, sleek and sexy. Still haven't made up my mind on a sling and BUIS.

Finally made it to the range today and I have to say this thing is pretty sweet. Shooting it next to my 6920 it's not really even close. I would take the BCM middy any day of the week.

I felt the same way with my S&W15 (Work issued). Would take the MID if they allowed me to.

Took it out to the desert over new years and ran 1k rnds through it. Started short stroking on pmc but not tula. Got it home and found I had broke a gas ring.
Then I added a K2 grip and geissele sd-c. Also replaced gas ring. I Will be taking it to the range and trying out this trigger and grip. Also made a A5H1 buffer from a carbine and an A5H2 to try since last time I tried with the A5H2 it wouldn't lock back 100%
A5H1 buffer and polished carrier did the trick! Locks back on tula when I was barely holding it and didnt have it against my shoulder, to test its reliability when it isn't held tight. I didn't have any PMC to test it with but tula is the next weakest load I could find.

Didnt like the K2 as much as the UC so I swapped it back. Also the A5 RE adds to the LOP so I took off the B5 bravo stock and put back a plain M4 stock to get it back down to what I'm used to.

How did you mount the Light to the Magpul handguards? And do you have a separate remote switch or just using the button on the back of the light?
(Sorry I'm new to lights.)
I used the magpul light mount kit. Yes I have a tape switch, its the black bar at the front left of the handguard in that last picture. It is secured with double sided tape.
Very nice, almost the same set up as mine

You are running the A5 RE? What buffer are you using?

Very nice. The 14.5" midlength is a great combination.
