I was cleaning my 11-87 after the latest 3-gun match, and viewing down the bore from the breech end noticed two protrusions at different points around the radius near the muzzle end. Whatever it was (I figured lead debris or slivers of wad plastic), several swabs with both patches and the brush wasn't clearing it, so I unscrewed the modified choke tube to find this....

Several courses of choke threading are stripped away to leave exposed an equal number of the female thread of the barrel, which amazingly are undamaged. For the time being, I have replaced with a IC tube (also Remchoke) that I happened to have on-hand. Still wonder WTF though, as well as should I obtain some other brand of tube.
