Looking for that good all around HD and deer hunting shotgun in pump or semi auto . Would like to be able to shoot rifled slugs or sabots or buck shot . Maybe you guys can point me in the right direction . Would prefer a all black shotgun with a shorter barrel , not sure if they offer this combo . Thanx for any help

It is easy enough to have 2 different purpose barrels with most shotguns. Some are even sold that way. I recommend searching both the mossberg and Remington web sites.

Thanx , so far in the descriptions that I read it doesn't give much info on the barrel . For what I want to do would I be better off shooting rifled slugs ? Thanx again

To split the difference between both roles, 22" would be the shortest I'd look at.

If you don't want to switch barrels, I'd look at the Mossberg 930 JM Pro. It's a vent rib, 22" barrel with fiber optic bead and screw in chokes, 9+1 capacity and is all black. MSRP is $730, which is very reasonable for a "do it all" semi-auto. Keep in mind the old saying about a "jack of all trades, master of none". A dedicated 18.5" would be a better HD/slug gun and a 24"-28" better for game requiring birdshot. JMO, YMMV

YouTube can really throw a wrench into all your hard research . I typed in benelli tactical supernova reviews , and low and behold there's a older guy shooting a tactical shotgun at 230 yards . And I was hoping to get close range and out to 75 yards .

You may want to check the Winchester SXP they offer a combo package all black syn stock,I believe a 26" VR and 18/SD/Slug barrel. HAs not been around as long as the Mossberg or Remington, but the one I shot felt good. I have considered getting one my self.

My local Big5 had the mossberg 500 combo with 28" and 18.5" barrels for $299 on sale. I prefer my AR and g17 for HD, but wanted a shotty for skeet and hunting. The 18.5 HD barrel was a bonus. It sits next to AR loaded with 00 ready to go. Throw the 28 on when taking the kids out for some fun. Great deal IMO.

I have an 870 Wingmaster, I put an tactical forend and +2 mag extension as well as a Remington 18.5" Mod choke police magnum barrel with tritium bead. Whenever I hunt I take off mag extension and replace it with the 26" barrel it came with.

I bought one of these a few years back for $275. I use the hell out of it with the 28" barrel for shooting clays. IMO it was the best bang for the buck gun purchase I have ever made.

I added a 590A1 trigger pack and safety, changed out the stock and fore end to a Hogue, and added an orange high visibility mag follower.

I honestly think hunting and SD are best kept to different shotguns.

However....if you cannot afford two separate guns right now....

A Mossberg 500 with a long barrel and short barrel will probably be your best option.

Id look at the Mossberg Combos, there is no need for two separate guns. They come with two different barrels, a hunting one, around 24", and a 18" security/HD barrel. Or the new Remingtons come with 18.5" barrels, but they take chokes so you could go that route too

Either shotguns are getting way better or maybe its the ammo ? Rifled slugs were killin the 2 litter bottles filled with water at 50 yards . Then we started shooting steel plate at 100 yrds easily . When I brought the SNT home I broke it down , took the plug out , lubbed with slip2000 . It fired light loads and slugs perfect .

Yeah, the shotgun world of ammo. suppliers has seen the writing on the wall finally...and so has the gun market. I just finished rebuilding my old 1100 Magnum: new delrin o-rings, ATI tube extender, 26" VR target barrel off gunbroker, and voila! All I need now is an EZ loader gate if I want to and she's ready for 3-gun comps this spring!

The ammo that's coming out now is just crazy cool stuff.

Hard to beat an old Remington 870 wingmaster.

You can find them cheap at pawn shops, usually with bird / clay shooting barrels.

Find a 18" or 20" bbl for you HD needs, and a rifled bbl with or without cantilever scope mount and you have the true all purpose shotgun.

Combo gun with 2 barrels is the way to, not that you can have too many shotguns though. Keep the short barrel on for hd, throw on the longer one for hunting/skeet.
