Like it says, I'm just looking for a basic bolt carrier, with the key, but without a bolt...

Of course I want an M16-type, MPI, etc.

I know that there's a lot of difference in quality in bolts, but what about bolt carriers?

Brownells carries DPMS stripped bolt carriers.

I'd email Bravo Company, G&R Tactical, or Sionics, and see what they can do for you.

BCM used to sell a bolt carrier as you desire, but I don't see one on their website anymore.

And there is always Brownells.

Yeah, I saw the DPMS on Brownell's, and I get dealer pricing from Brownell's so it would be pretty inexpensive, but I still can't remember whether it's worth it to pay a bit extra for a BCM or other (good) name brand carrier or carriers are all about the same...

Will do...

MidwayUsa does have a couple bolt carriers in stock.

http://www.midwayusa.com/find?userSearchQuery=bolt+carrier

I didn't see any heavy type bolt carries though, stripped.

I believe, IMHO the bolt carrier is as important, if not more so, then the bolt itself. Proper streaking of the key, grade 8 bolt with lock tight, heavy (automatic) vs the light versions (semi fire only) etc.

Good luck in your search.

I would do it, if it were me. I think Robb Jensen had a post a few years back about some bolt carriers he'd had to fix. They were staked, but the mating they did between the key and carrier was pretty crappy. Maybe you could ping him?

IIRC, he had to break the fasteners lose, stone the bottom surface of the key, and then use Rocksett and quality fasteners, plus a MOACKS.

Thanks, I use Midway, but I don't want a Del-Ton or Olympic (!), and I don't want a "low mass" carrier. I know enough to make sure that I get a M16/auto style carrier, and that the gas key is staked properly, I just can't remember whether choice of carrier is a BFD or not. IIRC, carrier's rarely fail, and any non-bottom feeder carrier is as good as any other.

The best there ever was. Just using a line from "The Natural"!

PSA has them. I have a couple--they're fine.

Yeah, but I doesn't make sense to me to buy a just a Colt carrier for $175 when BCM will sell me a complete BCG for $190...

Thanks, but I don't see just carriers on their site...

In any case, my problem is solved, because a member here contacted me offering to sell me a carrier. This site is really terrific...
