S&W M&P45 & ammo choices

Have you found any ammo that your pistol does not like, as in FTFs?

Not yet. 1500 rounds as of today, and have shot all kinds from different manufacturers. It's a bullet garbage disposal! No FTF or any shooting malfunctions to date. Knock wood!

Mine ate 100 rounds of old CorBon 200gr +P with the discontinued Speer "flying ashtray" bullet. I have a large stash of this from my pin-shooting days and I use it as my acid test of any .45ACP autoloader. The short, wide-mouthed bullet combined with the +P pressure is probably one of the least ideal .45ACP loads from the reliability standpoint.

It's also ate up everything else I've fed it for the last few months to include several brands of 230 ball, some old Winchester 185gr Silvertips, Winchester Ranger SXTs and Federal 230gr Hydra-Shok.

Couple thousand rounds through mine with 0 issues. I've only used Blazer Brass and Winchester Ranger loads through mine though.

I'm helping my brother diagnose a few issues with his new M&P45.

I'm not going to detail unresolved issues here before S&W has a chance to address them. That is, assuming I don't address them myself.

Besides, one of his issues could be ammo related. He was using something called Independence, which I've never heard of.

Zero ammo related issues with mine. The best shooting round I have fed mine is the CorBon 185gr +p DPX. Less felt recoil & muzzle flip than my issued 230gr Ranger duty ammo.

Update:

I addressed some problems with this pistol and gave it a good lubing, and hit the range with my brother.

- 132 rounds of Winchester USA (white box) 230 gr FMJ

- 20 rounds of Independence 230 gr FMJ (dirty ammo)

- 10 rounds of Federal Hydra-Shock 185 gr +P HP

The count split between the Winchester and Independence may be different, but the total was 162 rounds.

162 rounds, no malfunctions.

Accuracy was great, like I've become accustomed to with my M&P9 (which has been dead-nuts reliable from the beginning).

We'll put more rounds through it, but so far so good.

The only issues I've had were 2-3 failures to run completely into battery, but they were with my handloads. I use moly coated lead 230gr RNFP's and they catch on the curve of the slug. That's out of a sample size of maybe 100 rounds with a recipe I've used for 2,000 rounds through my Kimber 1911. Everything jacketed has been good to go.
