Ok, so there are a ton of games to waste time. A coworker of mine showed this to me a about an hour ago and I can't stop haha. This is some really stupid fun. It gets to the point that you don't even need to click on the cookie anymore.

orteil.dashnet.org/cookieclicker/‎

If the link doesn't work, Google cookie clicker game and it should be the first link. Simple to play, just click on the cookie! Right now, I'm making over 3,000 cookies a second.

Any other games you guys have found to drain your life away?

Clash of Clan's is very addictive and has some fun strategy elements in how you defend your base vs attack. Been playing for about 3 months

If I found an employee playing games at work while not on an official break, they would get one warning. If it happened again, they would be fired.

Yea but that's just because we work in the private sector. We have to be productive or our employer goes out of business. Im sure Doc's post was geared toward the government employees on this site.

When you are at work, you should be working. If you are not working, then you should not be there.

I will fire anyone who I catch playing games rather than putting in hard day's work for the wages I'm paying.

I work in the private sector and don't play games at work. Didn't catch the part of the OP about At Work. Have Clash of Clan's on my Iphone and it's a great mind occupier in the bathroom stall.

I understand your sentiment, but its not my fault there isnt enough work for me. Patients show up on their own schedule.

I have a lot of down time some days, and none on others. I work many lunches and stay late on busy days. On slow days I might be goofing on the net for 5 -6 hours a day.

Not every job is a bust your ass job. I've never had a job were I could play a game on the clock but I know some damn fine workers at other jobs I would hire in a minute who get to.

I could care less about it. I was just pointing out that people playing games on there phone aren't necessarily doing something wrong. Really doesn't bother me if he agrees or not, just a simple observation. Besides there's no point to this thread since the fact is that robo defense is the game to end all games.

My wife works at a state owned aquarium that is very slow in the off season. If there is no work to be done, the policy allows them to use IPads etc. Otherwise they would be staring at their registers, waiting for customers.

'nuff said.

The venue in which said addicting games are being played is irrelevant. It's about games not the efficacy of playing games on your employers time and sanction potential for doing so.

Why are we arguing over this?

Honestly I'm a fan of words with friends fwiw since there is some thought involved

Holy crap guys, I agree that people who are not productive during work are not worth their wages. I'm was talking more about those who have jobs that may have some slow time during the holidays. For me, inbound calls are in extremely short supply thus there is not much we can do. So everyone just calm down. Yes we all agree lazy people suck. I meant no harm nor did I want to get anyone fired. Everyone take a chill pill.

I played a lot of Spades when I was in the Corps. There was a lot of down time while the chiefs decided what the indians should do to occupy themselves and stay out of trouble. I don't remember anyone wanting to fire me because of that. :D

"If you play games when you should be working"

Doc. Holiday
12-30-13, 10:35
Ok, everyone gets it. If you play games, are on these forums at work, or doing whatever while at work you should be gone. This thread is not intended for people to get on their high horse and play boss. Look at my previous post. I'm sorry for not clarifying in my first post. SO WHEN YOU YOU HAVE DOWN TIME AND IF WHERE YOU WORK ALLOWS YOU TO USE YOUR TIME SOMEWHERE ELSE BESIDES YOUR WORKLOAD DUE TO LACK OF BUSINESS DURING THE HOLIDAYS OR OTHER PERIODS OF TIME, WHAT GAMES DO YOU PLAY IF ANY? There, no more firing garbage.

Caduceus
12-30-13, 11:51
I don't necessarily have a favorite game, but addictinggames.com has a lot to choose from (might be just one "G" in the website)]

back when I worked EMS, we'd have down time between calls and make up stuff. Baseball using a taped glove and a leg splint. Gurney-luge down driveways. tape-ball golf (again using a leg splint as a club). EMS-gym (curls w/ the gurney, dips off the back step, pull ups on the oh-shit bar...). Getting into the Code 3 club with your girlfriend ....

The most important game is having someone awake on lookout for the supervisor/company owner while playing on the clock or making sure you have a union job for when you get fired it's just a short paid vacation.

Abraham
12-30-13, 12:41
Hhmmmm, you're being paid, but when work demands are low you could: Sweep the floor, wash the vehicle, empty trash cans, pull maintenance on whatever would benefit. Show some initiative. Be creative. Find work to do. It can be done.

See where I'm going?

Play games when being paid to work, not on my watch.

Or, do you think (rhetorically speaking) it's O.K. to be paid and slack off when you can get away with it rather than find work that's very likely there if you look?

Showing initiative will also demonstrate responsibility leading to promotion, if that matters to you?

Shoot Bubble Deluxe is the only game on my Droid. I don't play it much but some time when I am sitting somewhere waiting or have a few min I will play it. I don't usually play it at work. I used to play solitaire waiting for files to open on my computer when we still had dial up in 2009!

By my reckoning, most of ya'll oughta be workin' . . . SO QUIT ****IN' AROUND ON THIS FORUM OR PLAYIN' YOUR STUPID GODDAM GAMES AND GET BACK TO WORK!

As for those of us who may be retired, unemployed, have the day off, or are on an employer-sanctioned "break," let's continue providing additional insights into how to mindlessly while away our idle hours. Not all of us have SteyrAUG's endurance when it comes to viewing porn. :D

True, but what if you have a lot of downtime or your work is done??

Good thing there are many different types of employment out there, whether big or small, private or public.

I work 12hr shifts at night for a major hospital, sitting in front of a pc for 80% of my shift. There is a difference when you work during the daytime vs nights/evenings. I give up my sleep while others are at home in their beds, and at least in a way I have some independence when work is slow. Heck, even the boss on duty is on the internet...

On the flipside, if you have a small private company that you own, then yes fire those slackers... lol

"but what if you have a lot of downtime or your work is done??"

Tell your boss you want more responsibility - show initiative, of course that requires sacrifice...if he/she doesn't respond to your request, start doing positive things you weren't asked to do. Make yourself more valuable to your corporation or company. You will ultimately be positively recognized.

Those not willing to turn down time into something other game playing are noticed, whether they think so or not.

Two years ago my wife's company had a major lay off and some of the first to go were those who were known to never show initiative.

Precisely, the same people making a joke about screwing around while on the job will be the first ones whining when they are layed off. They make themselves very easy candidates for lay off.

Some people don't get the fact that people like me who run on straight commission as a Head Hunter will have down times during certain periods of the year. I'm just in the office anyway because I am in here for inbound calls. Some other jobs there is no down time. But there are some on here that say there is no such thing. Well then don't worry about this thread and move on.

Great suggestion...

I'll make sure to ask for a hefty raise with those extra work I'm asking for.

Seriously though, the type I work I do is pretty managable. They already give us enough work and we're underpaid to begin with. I'm not complaining here..I've been w my company for over 12yrs and work hard. A little break is ok when there's downtime--because when we're slammed I work my tail off to get the work done.

There is a difference between a slacker employee and one that works efficiently. If I can get my work done in 75% of the time, I would not necessarily ask for more work if I'm not causing any Trouble.

Thread is packed with curmudgeons...

I am the boss at work, and if people have what I ask of them done, happen to be on a break, or are waiting on someone else to get their piece of a project to them, I don't mind a game or two. Morale is often more important in the workplace than much else. My people do all I ask of them and then some. They do it without much in the way of complaint, and they show up early and stay late without hesitation. I can not be a hard ass from 8-7 and stuff still gets done...

I currently have games of Words With Friends, and Chess (digital, we tried leaving a board sitting out and the cleaning crew screwed it up) going with several of my employees. I get a good poke in the ribs if I manage to loose too. They've tried to get me to play CandyCrush and Clash of Clans, but I'm to old and boring to like anything more than a Scrabble knockoff and Chess. At one point there was some Connect 4 going on because you can play it via iMessage on the iPhones, but after a dozen stalemates we realized the game wasn't quite hard enough and it faded away.

Doc, FU bro. I've been playing that cookie game for like 20 hours now. I've got 1,200,000,000 cookies, 6 time machines and 10 portals. Going on math, I should have my first anti-matter machine in an hour!

Doc. Holiday

HAHA! It's the DUMBEST game of all time, but it's so freaking addicting! Right now I'm making over 189 million cookies a second and waiting on getting my 100th Alchemy lab. I currently have 101 of everything with the exception of time machines (30) Portals (68) Alchemy Labs (99) and Antimatter (19). I just run it in the background and look at it every few hours and buy more and more. Thanks to the weekend, I had over 77 trillion to spend haha. Stupid game...
