View Full Version : IWI Tavor SAR
I have never cared for bullpups until I handled the IWI Tavor and I must say it was love at first shot. The balance is so much better then AR's or AK's. It's so good I can shoot it one handed with reasonable accuracy. I am still testing reliability but if that holds out it will be my main semi-auto rifle. The Aimpoint PRO seems to be the perfect sight for the Tavor. Also I have added a Gearhead TMF to mount my Fourseven Maelstrom MM-X and pressure switch. I know of a few different companies working on trigger for the Tavor but to be honest the stock trigger is pretty damn good for a bullpup trigger. I also plan on changing out the flashhider with something else. The Tavor weighs more then a AR-15 but doesn't feel like it when mounted on your shoulder due to the balance. Overall I am impressed and am liking the Tavor quite a bit but only trigger time will tell if it holds out.

Nice rifle. You mentioned changing out the flash hider for something else. I've always wondered if a Kies or other linear compensator would be the way to go on bullpups. On a 16" gun I bet you would get the same or less flash than with an a2 style FH, but you would also be getting more weight on the muzzle witch might help muzzle climb and wouldn't make the gun front heavy being a bullpup. Also you would get the sound being thrown forward and not have to worry about debris being kicked up when in the prone or rollover prone. I would think a brake would be torture on a bullpup just because the end of the muzzle is closer to the shooters face than an ar/ak.
A battle comp is at the top of my list so far. Right behind it is the BCM Gunfighter comp Mod 0. I am still undecided so I am not rushing it.
I have never been impressed with bullpups untill the Tavor. Most impressive.
Only dowside for me is the trigger. It's terrible but still serviceable. Also it seems to have more felt recoil than other 556 guns but balance and ergonomic are excellent and welcome as a lefty.
what is everyone's thoughts on them cancelling their 5.45 kit?
i never really felt the trigger bothered me at all. i never even noticed when shooting. maybe others are used to crazy adjusted ar15 triggers but when i shot i didn't even think "gee this trigger blows". i noticed it when dry firing though.

Geissele is working on a solution to the trigger problem from what I have heard. As far as felt recoil my impressions are the opposite. I guess everybody is different when it comes to perception.

Glad I never bought any 5.45. I was hoping they would come out with the kit so I would have a option to train with a cheaper ammo.

i would be too if i didn't shoot so many ak's.

Why do you care that he cares? I'm sure people have there reasons for wanting other calibers. 5.56 ain't the only thing that can be used in a rifle you know.

Interesting rifle for sure. I would love to shoot one sometime. Seems like it could be a lot louder for the shooter being a bullpup, especially if you put a fancy brake on it. Just a thought.
I wonder if you could measure the distance from your ear to brake?

I am already on a list for a Shooting Sight trigger for the Tavor. I can't wait to get it. Also I am excited to see what Geissele can do with the Tavor trigger. Should be interesting to say the least.
4lb. trigger pull and super easy installation, I'm hoping for a full trigger pack. Also want to see what Giessele is bringing to the table. As far as suppressors goes, I live in MN, so they're out for me.

I wonder whether this or the AUG will be available first in .300 BLK and/or 6.8 SPC. Also, a 20" barrel would be nice to get the better performance out of 5.56.
The 6.8SPC with a 20" barrel would be something I would buy to try out. :D
After switching from "G" triggers to ShootingSight SCAR Triggers, the "G" triggers went up for sale. Based on first hand exp. with SS triggers, I will choose his over the rest. Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with SS.
Thanks for the advice. I will keep that in mind.
Having owned 2 Tavors now I must say that the triggers on mine were very good out of the box. A friend has one with a creepy, gritty trigger. I will likely buy The SS trigger as soon as it is available. Impulse/recoil for me is better than my ARs but not as soft as my SCARs. I do not perceive any increased volume with the Tavor.
Just picked up one. Haven't had a chance to go to the range yet. But I shot a friend's with the original trigger and it was heavy but not awful. I plan to remove one of the springs to see how different it feels.
