Gentlemen,

Before he passed, Chuck had sent a prized 1911 away to a specialist named John Harrison for custom work. While Chuck was unsurprisingly smart enough to have set aside funds for this particular part of his project, there is some unfinished business that several of us wanted to help the family with.

In addition to the gun itself, which again is fully covered, there is a custom case as well as a set of grips being made to compliment it. The case, which was our idea after he passed, is going to house a challenge coin of his son Matt's choosing and the grips are also being customized as Chuck had ordered. What we seek are the funds to cover these items so that they can be passed on to the family in memory of their father who was also our dear friend.

The case will cost a total of $350 and the grips have a balance owed of $283.90 (Chuck had already paid $200 toward them), therefore the total required to complete both is $633.90.

Any size donation is sincerely appreciated. Funds can be sent to me via either Paypal gift or to my home and all will be recorded. My Paypal email is o.cinelli@comcast.net and my street address can be sent to you via PM if preferred.

Once again, any and all help will be extremely appreciated. Needless to say it's for a good cause.

PS - Chuck's daughter Emily just got married this past Saturday and by all accounts it was a great experience for the family. They all missed AC tremendously but know he was smiling down from heaven.

Thank-you to everyone who has donated so far, including the one fellow who doesn't have enough posts to comment here. If you could leave your screen names with the donation we know who to appreciate.

I will post a running total shortly with the accumulation of screen names, leaving the amount of each donation anonymous so everyone is comfortable donating anything they can. Each one makes a difference.

With that I still feel compelled to thank Montana Dave for an extra gracious contribution. Each donor combined so far we are almost half way there already.

Edit: By the way Dave tour PM box is full.

Yep, This once again, shows how much AC was loved here. It has also been cross posted on the 1911forum by Cory. If anyone can help on that forum as well.

Gentlemen,

Before he passed, Chuck had sent a prized 1911 away to a specialist named John Harrison for engraving.

Hey Tav:

Just a little clarification here, John Harrison's work was to customize the Colt that Chuck sent to Chuck's specifications. There was no engraving involved and John is not an engraver :)

Thanks for heading up this very kind gesture.

Sorry Sam, that would be the nice fellow you connected me with Brian Challis engraving the grips. I shouldn't post from my phone while doing other things.

The quota has been met and even exceeded due to the last generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous. Specifics will be posted shortly, just wanted word out right away. I will contact that person to see if he wants a partial refund and update the names in a moment.

You guys make us proud and Matt Petrie was forwarded a link to this effort.

Payment received, very generous under the circumstance. Thank-you.

To all others who want to do something for the family I'm happy to pass on any funds, however you may want to stand-by for the pending raffle of an utterly superb new BCM that was donated to Grant by Paul and his fine company. Proceeds will go to the Petrie's and you could win the gun of a lifetime.

Does his family have a shadow box for AC? I can donate a little bit but since the current project is already funded that just something I thought of.

That's a pretty cool idea, if his family has not already made one.

Just a quick update regarding this project. The case, which was made by a nice fellow named Tony Konovaloff, is finished and has I believe been sent to John Harrison, the gunsmith who worked on Chuck's 1911. Also another great guy to deal with by the name of Brian Challis has nearly completed the grips, when he does they will be sent to John as well and we'll post pictures everything when assembled together.

Thank-you again to all who helped make it happen.

Also looking forward to seeing the completed project.

And a hearty "Thank You" to all of those members going the extra mile on this project, the rifle raffle, and the great patches. An extraordinary effort by so many to honor the memory of a man whose absence is deeply felt.

John received the grips and has fitted it to the gun. He is also indexing the grip screws for proper alignment.

Exactly what I was thinking! An awesome 1911 with grips like that just cries out for some delicious dead piggy goodness. Any member of the Petrie family would carry it with pride as a terrific BBQ gun.

A closer look.

A rough picture of the gun, grip and box. The grip screws were not indexed. Chuck's former unit insignia was installed. John Harrison made an artistry addition of the "French lining", to really bring out the beauty of this package.

There will be much better pictures of the entire package to come.
