I have a mind to paint a SAR-1. I've used Alumahyde to do my VZ-58 mags with EXCELLENT results. But... it will not take brake cleaner. I like to clean an AK with a mix of water and Ballistol, then hose it dry with brake cleaner. I DON'T want anything elaborate - no Gunkote or Duracoat. If you go that route you SHOULD blast with Al Oxide and use a decent spray gun , etc. etc. Does something like Rustoleum or an Engine paint give decent wear and hold up to brake cleaner? BTW - my pristine SA85M paint will come off with brake cleaner - and I think Arsenal's paint will also.
