I need two small machine screws. Flat screws, 3/8" long or so. I don't want to order online because I've already waited forever. Who sells these types of screws? Any large big box stores? West Marine? home Depot? Etc? Any type of local store that would specialize in these? (i.e. auto parts store, etc)

I would think any local hardware store should have what you're looking for. Otherwise, try Fastenal. They have store fronts.

Metric or 'merican?

I find that ACE Hardware has the best supply of small and hard to find nuts (especially metric), bolts and parts, followed by Lowes'. Home Depot sucks for anything other than bulk packs of standard stuff it seems.

ACE usually has standard, brass, stainless and some of the special rated versions also, it usually has some odd threads and lengths. My borderline OCD kicks in everytime I go thru their bins and stuff is out of place....

I have no idea if it's metric or American. I have a screw that fits the thread, but it's too long for what I need.

There is a Fastenal and an Ace around me, but they are in opposite directions. Which would be the best bet?

I've been to Ace before, but I don't remember seeing screws that tiny.

If I was a betting man, Ace would be cheaper & Fastenal would have better selection. Take the screw with you & just say to the clerk, "I need some of these".
I should add that more times than not, when I walk into our local Fastenal and need a small, single, oddball part, they just give it to me free of charge. Of course that will vary on location & person. Our company does a shit ton of business with them though, so YMMV.

22433Appreciate the links guys, but I just wanted this part ASAP. Already been waiting to get this gun up since before thanksgiving.

Fastenal was a winner. They had the exact screw I was looking for and it cost me a whopping $0.22. The clerk even knew it was for an AR, made my day. Range trip tomorrow, just gotta hit it with some paint.
